Also one of my friends was tested for the virus again yesterday because she was around one of her friends who tested positive. She gets the results Monday.

The US is just getting worse and worse, even I know better than them how to at least slow the spread of the virus.

No. Very nearly literally all antibody responses drop to nothing after a period. That includes antibodies to diseases for which you obtain lifelong immunity (chickenpox antibodies, for example, drop off dramatically after about a year). In the case of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, most people hit their peak antibody response a few weeks after the infection, which then drops off to a plateau at a lower level, which generally remains in place for as long as any studies have ran to date. A drop in antibody levels does not in any way mean that your immunity has dropped off. Further, this virus is entirely unlike HIV: it has no capacity to go dormant in the way that HIV does. Almost everybody will clear the virus before their symptoms even finish (shedding of dead viral particles can continue for significantly longer, but that's just your body getting rid of the virus corpses its response made). There's a reason that RT-PCR testing is inaccurate outside of a fairly narrow window: it's because there's fuck all virus left to test for after that.

TL;DR: Having neutralising antibodies means that you're immune. No longer having neutralising antibodies does not mean that you are no longer immune. This is a totally normal thing that happens with basically every virus, regardless of how long people tend to remain immune to it.

We haven't got to that point yet, I don't think. But it seems like that's what we will have to resort to soon.

We're projected to have 224,000 deaths by November 1.

Considering 101 is the first course in tertiary study, it's a bit arrogant to assume everyone should know such "basic" biology.

Hopefully not Trump after all. He's mostly failed to screw things up: pulling the wrong levers or writing EO's that die in court, but I'm sure he could do worse now he's had a few years practice.

White House document shows 18 states in coronavirus 'red zone'

A new White House coronavirus task force report shows that 18 states are in the COVID-19 “red zone,” meaning they recorded more than 100 new cases per 100,000 residents in the past week.

The 359-page document, which was obtained by the Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit Center for Public Integrity and dated July 14, also shows that 11 states are now reporting positivity rates exceeding 10 percent for COVID-19 diagnostic tests.

The 18 states in the red zone for new cases are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

The only blue state being California.

The 11 states with test positivity rates above 10 percent — another red zone designation — are Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.

2 blue states out of 11.

Trump had to make mask wearing and social distancing a culture war issue and red staters had to chomp down on that hook.

Schools are potentially not opening in my county this fall. I'd certainly prefer that our circumstances were favorably enough to allow my younger siblings to continue in their classes and for me to start college this fall, but...online classes are better for now.

Some of my relatives very strongly want their kids in taking onsite classes though...
