I wouldn't consider any 'cultural' jobs as Essential Jobs. Not like grocery store employees, farmers, truckers, doctors, nurses, etc.

You said "more important" but now you're moving the goal posts to "essential".

Strictly speaking, not even food production is essential. The US could import food ... then you'd say "sailors" instead of "farmers" right?

I may have said that, but San Lumen said that Musicians are "essential". I was disagreeing with him.

His point is probably that all jobs are essential to the one doing them. But far be it from me to say what he meant.

Do you know how many things happened because it was portrayed in the arts first?

So if your not in the fields you mentioned your expendable?

"Expendable" is not what I would say. As they should be able to do their craft. It's just those industries shouldn't be opened during a global pandemic. While food production, transportation and retailers should.

I mean, I wouldn't want a couple of thousand people crammed into a theater to watch a play if there was a virus infecting tens of thousands of people a week, would you?

You can't blame me for enjoying human theatre. You guys write way more creative plays than we do.

Ask a coronavirus to write something and it is just the same plot over and over. Gets old.

Personally I am somewhat disappointed by the turnout. Now Ebola? That was a killer. Think we'll ever figure out how to get that one airborne?

Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

Honestly, it's not even a competition. The United States exports like double the agricultural amount of Germany (by USD) and nearly 2.5x that of the third-largest, the UK.

You can get it airborne by spraying it in an aerosol. Kind of like you can teach pigs to fly by launching them from a trebuchet. I just don't know why you would want to.

"Exports" is a small proportion of "production" as I'm sure you know. The US could literally stop producing food tomorrow, and the world would not starve.

The US would however have to import a lot more (as well as not exporting food) and that would likely break something.

In terms of calories, the US is second and close to number one.But the first is a importing country. If the United States strikes, it would be equivalent to subtracting a large part of global food production, and the part originally supplied to the United States would have to be imported. Therefore, some poor people in the third world may starve to death....

My university is making me pay the full housing fee (which is around $4,500) for the upcoming fall semester when they aren't even sure if they'll have students on campus this year. I love that I can still go into debt during the worst timeline in recorded history. I'll be sure to remember that for later, since I've now concluded that this pandemic will never end and we'll be stuck with COVID-19 being around for the rest of our lives.

"a large part" being how much exactly?

Since you brought up calories, you'll have to give two figures: the market value of food made by the US (the usual measure) and also the calorific content of the food.

The world wastes a lot of food, and it would waste less if the price was higher. The poor people in the third world aren't undernourished because there isn't enough food, they're undernourished because they can't afford to buy food.

I'm talking "social distancing, mask wearing forever" type of 'sticking around'. At least for the next few decades, at the rate things are going. I've just lost all hope for this to end, and I didn't even have any hope to begin with.

I mean the whole deadly illness part of it does kinda put a damper on the “fun” of it going airborn.

Even if it takes that long to develop a vaccine, natural immunity would reduce the need for social distancing or masks.

I kind of doubt that, but I honestly know next to nothing about the immunity science behind it.
