They wont be because they can't make a profit therefore Billy is hung out to dry by the government because they wont give the arts a penny. He has to possibly give up on his career and the one place he can be himself and go work a desk job completely miserable.

See, now take that anger and instead of being angry at coronavirus or health professionals, get angry at the government and demand change.

Our state government could care less. Our Governor has shown no interest whatsoever in funding the arts.

New York City will likely have to go through bankruptcy which would mean many retired city workers with reduced pensions and the like.

At this point im beginning to doubt it will and that's a massive blow to the city economy from which it would take a generation to recover

Most likely. Especially as political groups in New York will delay Bankruptcy because many of those retired workers still live in the city.

On the plus side rent is about to go down and I will be able to get a lap dance on time square again.

And the ripple effect will be so massive New York;s economy could very likely collapse and that would ripple across the nation but our Governor does;t seem to give a fig

So what is your suggestion? If theaters cannot survive with social distancing and they certainty cannot just fully reopen, what do you want to happen? Because it honestly feels like your just complaining about how much this sucks to which I reply, welcome to the club.

I guess they have to stay closed then and hope they can survive until their is a viable treatment or vaccine or the government decides to bailout the arts instead of giant corporations that don't need a cent

New York State has a 13 billion dollar deficit and couldn't help if they want to.

Even if we get everything back to normal the revenue lost by city and state will be extreme. Because a lot of higher income earners fled the state to summer homes and started working remotely from there back in March. They likely will claim they worked in those other lower income tax states for 3/4s the year so a large portion of New York State's and City's revenue will not be available.

Well San Lumen. We don't have a deficit in Texas, and we even have a 9.7 billion dollar rainy day fund that will likely keep the local governments funded during this crisis. So you are welcome down here just mind the mandatory gun ownership laws.

And where's the state gonna get the money? Concerts and big events bring in tourism. Without them, the entire industry would be screwed, which would have a flow on effect on the whole damned economy through the tourism multiplier effect. I can explain the tourism multiplier effect if you want. No government would sibsidise a concert from a foreign musician if this concert will bring less money to the economy than it otherwise would have

States often do fund projects for reasons other than generating revenue. Germany subsidizes filmmaking for cultural as well as monetary reasons, and the US as much as it nominally hates public spending dumps about three quarters of a trillion dollars every year into the financial black hole that is its Armed Forces.

A theatre production or concert should therefore be unprofitable and not have the money to pay the production costs or the salaries of those involved in the show? Its as if your trying to espouse an ideology here and refuse to listen to facts and deny reality.

I don't know if your leaders can do anything.

A federal bailout is needed and best case scenario that will be based off population and not need. So states like Texas and Florida who do not have a budget crisis will get more money.

State has a 13 billion dollar deficit, City has a 9 billion dollar deficit an absolute best case scenario you get maybe 5 billion from the federal government total for both.

And that barely covers the shortfall from the theatre industry going belly up which means the entire tourism industry collapses and with it the cities economy and bankruptcy still occurs

Well I think once this is over your best bet is to move to Texas.
