It's super easy to divide the world into the three categories when one of the categories is "not the first two categories."

The point is that if the republicans see your third party candidate sopped up a non-negligible part of the vote and that this portion more closely aligns with then than the democrats suddenly it's attractive to republicans to focus in on the issue you care about.

I think one big thing Trump has over him is the fact that Trump is not a push over and stands his ground, a lot of people call him arrogant or stubborn or likewise because of it, however they don't realise just how much people enjoy that. Americans seem to be very strong-willed, arrogant, and stubborn people, so they want someone who represents that, not someone who will immediately fold because he doesn't want to upset foreign countries or nationals.

Strong willed can be viewed good by some people and bad by others, for Trump it's one of the reasons he got elected so if Biden stood his ground then perhaps more people would like him. He really is playing defence when it comes to politics.

Other issues are that he could be seen as a puppet or someone slowly losing control of their mind, but I don't know enough about him.

He is constantly feeding his own people to the wolves because when he gets caught with a bad idea he doesn't have the stones to take his licks and stay the course. He's like the opposite of the Hulk, he walks around like a tough guy and then the moment someone challenges him he turns into a pussy.

Trump is a weak-willed person's idea of a strong-willed person; a poor person's idea of a rich person; an ignorant person's idea of a smart person. Had he not inherited money he would be standing on a street corner in Queens with a squeegee and a dirty rag.
