For example, the way I see it Trump has completely and utterly failed to address two of the largest issues facing the US. The corona-virus and the issue of police brutality. His addressing of corona was bungled beyond police and he has done nothing to deal with the issue of systematic police brutality. How exactly is this wrong?

Trying to pathologize Trump's awfulness is irresponsible. We can explain his awfulness without relying on armchair psychology.

But I do disagree. Pathology is neither here nor there, thinking deeply about other people is the root of compassion. Particularly when you not only disagree, but they're awful. The activist approach is always information heavy, class conscious and policy first. It's an important world view. But separating empathy from sympathy is what actually changes minds, and that generally requires observation.
