Nah. I only see the police and national guard doing that. Strange. It's almost as if a tyrannical government is more of a threat to freedom than a bunch of rabble rousers are.

I laugh when Trump calls Joe Biden a puppet of the radical left. I guess in Trump world, radical left means:

•Wants to cut social security
•Supports mandatory drug sentencing and tough on crime laws
•Bombing the middle east for its oil and to please Israel and Saudi Arabia
•Saying he knew some white supremacists and they were good guys, "they never called me boy."

I welcome this as a move back towards the subject.

That said, what pathetic talking points. The man is a politician, trading away bad things to get good things is what politicians do. If they're even slightly effective. Sticking to their principles always is for the likes of Ron Paul and Bernie Sanders who never achieved a damn thing.

Well guess who influences politics the most. Donors. Big money plays a huge role in politics, and running on a "far left" platform usually won't get your far in the presidential election. Just look at Bernie.

Besides, what has Biden recently done thats "far left?" He's been against several far left ideas like Medicare for all, or defunding police. Trump is literally talking out his ass, but that's what he always does. Makes shit up and knows the most braindead members of his audience will lick it up without question and the smarter ones will compromise values for whatever gain they're trying to make under Trump.

Not a fan of US interventions, but those interventions, especially Iraq, were not because of oil. It was to send a message.

The "blood for oil" narrative has become so entrenched in the people's mindset that it almost qualifies as a religion. I fail to see why a war, which only causes chaos, mayhem and destruction, would be the perfect opportunity for oil companies to invest in a lawless, destabilised country.

Yeah, donors have a lot of influence. Mostly on Congress members who are numerous, and can be picked off one by one.

It's actually less of a thing with Presidents (or candidates) because once elected a President has only one more election to fight. With the incumbency advantage, they can afford to blow off the donor which gave them 20% of their funds the first time around.

Look, it really doesn't matter. Intentions are what matter, because the President is not King. Congress does everything of lasting importance and the current or former Congresses have done very little except the big tax cut early on, and the big stimulus/covid package this year. Trump had basically nothing to do with either of them, he just signed them instead of veto-ing.

Intentions matter because a good President can lead Congress. Particularly at first when the President's mandate is fresh, they stand above the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House ... the President has the "bully pulpit". Maybe just for a little while, but a strong President able to persuade the strong minds of Congress has the upper hand and can get things done.

Not saying Biden is that man, though. He's a bit doddery, I can admit that, but on a good day he is admirable.

The concept of the "noble savage" is pretty racist, but it’s also the root for the current discourse around native Americans in that they all think or act the same way, which is completely untrue

Yeah, let me now dissent from "the current discourse". I don't know who you're accusing of holding belief in "the noble savage" but lacking any obvious target I have to suspect it is you.

I'm inclined to just let him have his federal park with some statues. Give him some rope!

Well quite. A lot of his base will object if the statues aren't ALL military men.

My initial reaction was fuck him, let him have a park with some statues.

Then it occurred to me just how badly Trump could fuck himself with this.

Congress should pass a bill authorizing the President to establish parks and put up statues, within 4 months.

I'm thinking a billion or two. Let Trump really fuck himself from sea to shining sea!
