I vote that when someone hits a certain level of income they should be stripped of any money after said income line, forced to pay 80%+ in taxes, and maybe become a monk or nun or something for good measure.

Give them a plaque that says they won capitalism, and then tax 50% of their earnings after that point. As reward and with proof of that payment, they get a newer, shinier, plaque every year.

Can they still be forced to serve time as monks or nuns though?

They don't even have to be religious, they can join science guilds or think tanks or something.

Ah! So....What false narrative have the demos been trying to pitch by doing that?

During Eisenhower? No they weren’t and they were rightfully taxed considering profiteering during the war.

The "taxes are bad" crowd just kill me. These are always lower or middle class people who directly benefit from public funding, yet adopt an upper class ideology like libertarianism that if implemented, in their current class, would directly make their life much more difficult than it is.

I can only assume they imagine they'll be the 1% one day or some other delusion because that's all that makes sense.

Sure, it would be preferable to not have an inflated police budget and direct that to other social programs. But regardless, any state-led police force is inherently better than the McPoliceTM

That, I suppose, is the root of the problem. When cool leftists say "defund the police" they mean "let's put those funds in other programs for better use" but when lame rightlibs say stuff like that they mean "let the private sector take over so I can pay marginally less taxes!"

An Analysis: Trump's not bothering to hide his political interference in vaccine push.

This included completely rejecting the CDC's timeline of when the vaccine could be widely available and distributed; the CDC said that won't be until 2021. Trump? This October, which creates not just a false narrative, a but dangerous one that is completely undermines (and rejects) reality. Yep, he's desperate to stay in power.

We've been thru this before, haven't we?

“Defund the police” means reallocating or redirecting funding away from the police department to other government agencies funded by the local municipality. That’s it. It’s that simple. Defund does not mean abolish policing. And, even some who say abolish, do not necessarily mean to do away with law enforcement altogether.

Different from abolishing and starting anew, defunding police highlights fiscal responsibility, advocates for a market-driven approach to taxpayer money, and has some potential benefits that will reduce police violence and crime.

It's actually 197,000 now: we'll likely break 200,000 by Monday or Tuesday next week. And well, he's always been against masks. After all, he only started to "support" them back then for political reasons. But Trump's push for Vaccine in October will likely not come to fruition: not only did 9 Pharma Companies signed a pledge to listen to science and not rush the vaccine out, but Moderna expects to know if its coronavirus vaccine works by November. Both of these issues contradict Trump's timeline and as much as he wants to try to control that, we're thankful he won't be able to do so. Unfortunately, there's a big risk with voters being misled, which is what is currently transpiring right now.

It's literally not though. The numbers have already been crunched. If we had more decisive action earlier and for longer our death toll would be something like half its current size. Trump has a LOT of blame here.

What you have is a world with other governments that have taken different actions with different results and this can all be studied and we can come to conclusions about what would have happened if Trump had taken similar actions.

One would think that since Donald Trump is self-proclaimed as der Größter Genie aller Zeiten the COVID death toll would've been negligible under his "benevolent" rule. It's 200k instead.

Comparisons between policies enacted in different countries can be more complicated than they might appear at first glance. But in this instance the whole world is facing the exact same problem. We're all fighting the same disease, so we can make comparisons of different approaches much more easily than with other issues.
