It might work in Arizona and Florida, but, at the very least, the other states have Democrat governors who need to sign off on the Certificate of Ascertainment that verifies the Elector as being really an elector. Tho it's hard to know for sure, each state handles it differently and has a different relationship between the Legislature and the Executive.

The issue it creates in this instance would be a potential disconnect between the popular will in a given state and the will of the legislature, a matter that can be remedied in the long-term via elections. Indirect appointment of electors isn't exactly a novel policy. The issue here is that it's a thinly veiled attempt to fix an election by changing the rules last minute.

I don't think the justices he's appointed thus far are anywhere near as beholden to Trump as a person as people who dislike them presume. A Biden presidency isn't going to change all that much unless Biden caves to progressives and tries to do much more beyond a "return to normalcy", which is what he'd likely have a mandate to do. Packing the most credible branch of government would squander political capital, set a terrible precedent, and lose the center. Allowing riots to continue simmering or caving and implementing policies that exacerbate the existing crime wave aren't going to play well either. I'm wholly expecting Biden to rule from the middle and, as such, there's no actual reason we can expect the SCOTUS to go along with a coup. They never have before.

Both of those things are bad.

Since then, the only time the majority of Americans trusted the government was in the immediate aftermath of the 2001 attacks. Though apparently people really liked Bill Clinton, since his term is the only one with no drops in confidence.
