I can't remember if it was Chomsky or Zizek (probably Zizek, tho), but I recall one of them arguing that it was ultimately a good thing that Occupy failed to gain any traction, and that it was instead suppressed, because in practice it was such an aimless and disorganized mess that it could not have produced anything worth a damn if it had survived.

And Pool is kind of an embodiment of that. Yes, his core appeal to his conservative viewers is his construction of his public persona, of his enunciator, as a disaffected leftist. But beyond the vague self-identification, what specific left-wing causes, policies or organizations has he supported in the past four years? Has he ever really expressed any specific left-wing ideas? Has he tried to use his sizeable platform to push for them? No. Instead his content is mostly him smearing his alleged comrades. If he was ever sincere about being left-wing or left-leaning, he is the living embodiment of the autophagous left.
