Trump campaign sues state of Nevada in attempt to block citizens from voting.

Trump's drive to slow down the USPS in order to deter voting by mail is impacting veterans who get their prescriptions by mail. Reports of two week delays of delivery of critical meds.

Trump says absentee voting is great, and it works, like in Florida. But mail-in ballots are going to be a great embarrassment to the country and cause fraud.

GOP platform is to reduce the number of votes cast this election.

And violent. Some of them are violent. So I have a deal for those people. I will leave them alone, I won't touch a hair on their head, just don't vote for me or anyone, OK? I mean, that's fair isn't it?"

No, see. Mail in voting is perfect and beautiful and amazing and totally secure in states where Republicans think it will benefit them, but absentee ballots are totally badwrong evil fraudulent corrupt in states where they think it won't.

His singling out Florida is not a coincidence. I'm assuming someone finally sat him down with some crayons and explained, with visual aids, that mail-in voting has always been pretty critical to Republican success in Florida because the retirees down there weren't big on in-person voting even before the outbreak of a pandemic disease that their age renders them the most vulnerable to, but they've been listening to Trumps rants about the evils of mail-in voting and Republicans are now badly trailing Democrats in absentee ballot requests.

That's mistaking cause and effect. When the Democrat is popular, turnout goes up. But idiot that he is, Trump thinks a low turnout means he will win.

The guy has many more enemies than friends. Hate motivates people to vote better than admiration of the other candidate. Attempts to suppress voting across-the-board will deter those who weakly support him more than it suppresses the vote of those who weakly hate him.

I expect he's hearing much the same from seasoned campaigners on his staff and in Congress. Blatant suppression of the vote will only turn more voters against him, and make the weakly opposed into outright haters. They'll queue four hours in the rain with a Mr Whippy truck driving back and forth, before they'll give up their power to vote him the fuck out.

Retirees aren't even that keen on Trump any more. He hasn't exactly lost that part of the Republican base, but he has pretty much neutralized it. If he keeps hammering away about their postal voting being corrupt and wrong, he will actually lose them.

That's nationally btw. Perhaps Floridian retirees are dumber than the national average, and still support Trump.

Any Republican who gave Trump sage advice about postal or absentee voting, was probably more concerned about the down-ticket than saving his sorry ass. I expect to see backflips with browneyes from Republicans in the lame-duck months. Testing the limits of what powers can be stripped from a lame-duck President.

Hopefully including the power to make public statements of any kind

The GOP is actively pushing policies of disenfranchisement, and they do it for good (albeit cynical) reasons from the standpoint of winning elections.

And yeah, here's Trump saying the quiet part out loud again:

Donald Trump has admitted that proposed measures to make it easier for Americans to vote - including mail-voting - would make it harder for the Republican party to win an election.
The comments came as the president discussed the coronavirus stimulus bill passed by the House of Representatives, and signed on Friday, providing a $2tn (£1.7tn) stimulus to Americans.

Democrats had attempted to include $4bn worth of measures to safeguard November’s presidential election, with specific provisions for mail and absentee ballots as well as online and same-day voter registration, and expanding early voting by 15 days.

“The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again,” said Mr Trump during an interview on Fox & Friends.

“They had things in there about election days and what you do and all sorts of clawbacks. They had things that were just totally crazy and had nothing to do with workers that lost their jobs and companies that we have to save.”

Trump says Republicans would never win election again if it was easier to vote

Now one wonders what the next step will be. Stepping down and dissolving the party would be the honorable thing to do, but he won't do thst ofc.

I love how Trump doesn't know one way or the other if John Lewis was impressive or not. How do you not know whether someone was impressive in your own opinion?

Because he doesn't know who John Lewis was and at no point between the man's very high profile passing and being asked about him did it occur to Trump to remedy that ignorance.
