I think Trump thinks most Americans are dumbasses. He thinks he can easily revise history and no one can just go on YouTube and watch a video of him in March saying "it's just the flu. Why should we care?"

No, he's more like a Hugo Chavez or some communist leader of some country behind the Iron Curtain. The same pattern of lying. doubling down on lies and attacking those who call out the lies.
Also the same in terms of followers who would not question a word being said by the leader in question. Evidence be damned, science can go to hell, logic need not apply, the leader determines what is true and what is not.

The lies that were told by those leaders in those (now former) communist states sometimes reached such grotesque proportions that quite often you basically knew they didn't actually believe it themselves, they just told others to believe it. Trump does the same thing, even in petty ways such as the size of the inauguration crowd. You might think it is an innocent lie, but in reality it is part of a dangerous (authoritarian) pattern where speaking the truth can be considered a revolutionary act.

For all the talk about how "both sides are the same" or how the Bernie movement was as much a cult of personality as Trump's, history paints a very different picture. Lots of Bernie supporters openly disregard his calls to support Biden. Democratic voters tend to be pretty consistent about policy regardless of who's in charge (as in, they won't suddenly change their minds on, say, military intervention in Syria just because it's a Democrat or Republican doing it). Enthusiasm on the left for Biden is low despite the party apparatus' best efforts, while Republican enthusiasm for Trump remains high despite him blatantly and royally fucking up his response to the worst crisis in recent history.

I've seen ever more people declare that they'll never, ever vote for the other party because a couple members of that party were stupid (while ignoring the same antics from your own camp). This is different from rejecting a party because one (or more) of their most common policies is one you fundamentally oppose.

What's weird is I legitimately believe that. Politics love money, money begets power which is politicians. Epstein would seek out politicians for access to power, they seek him out for money. Trump associates himself with money, Epstein likes money and is a horn dog. Both Clinton and Trump both cut ties with Epstien before his initial arrest with every indication pointing to the reason being 'he creeped them the fuck out and/or their handlers told them this could be a problematic entanglement.
