I do like how the pandemic is "serious" when it comes to immigration issues but not for other issues. This is just his excuse to take advantage of the pandemic and limit immigration: he is an immigration hawk, after all.

Honestly, the depths of idiocy plummeted by this administration is a wonder to behold. Not only is it a brain drain but it hits farmers, who Trump has already done a fine job alienating, by not allowing seasonal workers.

Here's a pro-tip. Simply put in place a system that tags anyone coming in, place them in quarantine for 14 days, test them and if they're clear let them go about their business. That's what most sensible countries have done but, no, not Trump, ban immigrants is just his default solution to everything, ban immigrants and dismantle regulations.. that's it.

Well, he is an immigration hawk so I'm not surprised though this order will likely infuriate some businesses. I can understand that we should test people as they come in and keep them quarantine if they test positive, but his approach is simply not the right one.

So...how exactly are the farmers going to get enough people to gather crops?

I hear tell there’s an unemployment problem right now. A lot of people looking for work.

For the right sum of money, and covered lodging, people will travel for temporary work.

H2B workers did.

Yes, and married people who need money and are willing to travel to get it.

Hell, a lot of truck drivers are married, and they leave home for weeks at a time.

Yeah. Bolton criticizes a lot of how he did his job but most of his criticisms, even in situations where the criticism seemed valid on its face, were underscored by "...which is exactly what a Democrat would do" which made me laugh every time.

Well I don't know, the benefit of seasonal workers is that they're mobile and fit. I don't know how many unemployed meet this criteria, that is you need to be able to move along with the season from location to location and, frankly, picking is backbreaking hard work.

I used to do seasonal picking in Australia, you are moving every 3-4 weeks and you better be fit.

It's testament to how dysfunctional this administration is when Peter Navarro says the China trade deal is over, stock markets plummet, Trump panics and tweets it's all intact and then Peter Navarro has to say 'oh, right, no it's not over, what I said was taken out of context..'

'It was just a joke', or 'it was taken out of context', seems to be the go to lines to excuse fuck ups.

If Trump had the strength of his convictions, he'd say "screw the stock market" but all this time he's been living in a fairy land where cutting ties with China will be good for American business.

The stock market doesn't even measure all American business, only the interests of the largest companies. The Dow for instance is only the 30 largest by market cap, and the FTSE only the top 100.

Thing is, he’s been pointing to the stock market all his term as an indicator of economic strength.

Hence he'll be blaming China as the reason for the stock market being tanked.

Not that anyone knows. Even if he did, the next day he's just deny the apology.

No one did a better job than Trump in handling this pandemic and economic fall out, and the growing infection numbers and tanking economy is only because China didn't mention the virus until January giving him only 2 months to formulate an incredible response that, alas, lousy democrat governors mismanaged.. which is why Southern states are seeing record growth right now.

That's why they're NUMBER ONE in infection rates and deaths, if Brazil doesn't manage to beat them but he'll ensure they won't because MAGA.

What they should be doing is a little moot now given they didn't do anything before, however being clear and consistent would be a start.

What should have been done should have been done back in February rather than baselessly claiming it was all under control, it would disappear in summer and promoting dangerous remedies.

Yes, perhaps we'll see chain gangs of convicts picking crops. That would go down well.
