An extremely obscure reference if so. It's the first I'm hearing of Antifa using it themselves, and I used to be associated with them. The fact he chose that particular image out of all of the way more popular symbols has to be deliberate. But why? Is he dog-whistle trying to win over the neo-Nazis by using images that have double meaning?
Oh, I don't think there's anything dog-whistly about it. Trump has never tried to be subtle about his fascist leanings before, so why would he start now?

What even was the context? I know the ad was about declaring antifa terrorists, but what the hell was the intent? I'm legitimately having trouble grasping this. There has to be some other reason. Not even Trump would deliberately try to associate himself with the Nazis.
Antifa uses the symbol as a badge of honour, associating themself with the communist resistance of world war 2.

Right, but they're totally not communists right?
Some are. Some are anarchists. Some just like to punch nazis in the face.
But let us be fair - the most efficient resistance to facism was offered by the violent communists. It makes sense to be inspired by the best.

Did he mean to express horror at watching a man dying for 8 minutes or that he has the attention span of a toddler ?

Might depend on location. In Germany, they actively fed into the rise of the Nazis, in no small part because the social democrats were also under attack by the communists.

I mean this should be obvious. Of course the communists attacked social democrats. They were violent, authoritarian terrorists who thought everyone who disagreed with them should be killed. Much like modern communists.

And the German social democrats weren't?
