This nation's name is a conflated misremembering of titles across two separate Robert Silverberg books.

I thought I remembered a senior religious figure in his 1980s novel Star of Gypsies with the title 'Archregimand'; this sounds a lot like the senior real life Orthodox monastic title 'Archimandrite', and I thought it would in turn make an excellent 'made up' title for the representative of the external civil government in an autonomous monastic republic.

So that civil government representative is called, in my RPs, the Archregimand, and the autonomous monastic republic is called the Archregimancy.

But then I re-read Star of Gypsies a few years ago, and realised that the religious figure in question was in fact called an 'Archimandrite'; so I now thought I'd made up 'Archregimand' entirely by myself, and gave myself a little pat on the back.

Except two months ago, I re-read Silverberg's early 1980s short story collection The Majipoor Chronicles for the first time in over a decade, and one short story features a local representative of the Imperial power called an 'archiregimand' - which is only a one letter difference.

So it turns out that I did steal it from Robert Silverberg after all, just not from the book I thought I stole it from.
