And there might've also been validity to the "he was in critical condition" at the time of initial reporting, people get better you understad.

What "problem?" The "problem" was entirely on Western media's end. The DPRK has never cared about or responded to rumors of their leaders' deaths, whether in the 1980s (Kim Il-sung died in 1994), 2008 (Kim Jong-il died in 2011), or 2014 (Kim Jong-un is still alive), and frankly Western gossip does not affect how they are run.

Western media, on the other hand, has always had the problem of having literally no standards when it comes to reporting on the DPRK. There is an entire Wikipedia article on it. NYT has reported on the DPRK rumor mill before, as have other Western sources.

The ROK government said that there was no evidence that things were wrong and further said that he was fine. US intelligence and government officials (beyond the anonymous CNN source) said that there was no evidence for any of the rumors. There was satellite imagery of his personal train being used and his usage of luxury yachts prior to him showing up again in photos and TV. Yet people still believed he was dead due to baseless rumors.

What were the two sources for his death? An anonymous American government official on CNN, and screenshots of text messages in a supposed WeChat (Chinese WhatsApp/LINE) group chat published by an American celebrity gossip site (TMZ). CNN and others are being harshly, and rightly criticized by Western Korea experts (who are generally conservative) and center-left Southerners for their absolutely trash reporting that barely even qualifies as journalism.

There is video evidence that he is alive. There is a huge sign that says "MAY 1ST 2020" and people in the video are wearing masks because of COVID-19. Yet people trust a source that has been trashed by everyone and a celebrity gossip site over you know, all the actual proof and evidence presented by the American, South Korean, and North Korean governments? That's just wishful thinking getting in the way of their logic.

Regardless of whether or not you trust their government, a lot of information on the DPRK is freely available if you just bother to look it up, and there are people who study and do reporting on it for a living.

Honestly "our" media in general is just horribly unreliable about everything. It has always been so. But with the invention of the 24h news cycle which makes it essential to bombard people with "news" constantly the whole thing has been transformed into at best a rumor mill and at worst just TV copy pasting social media. It's embarrassing just how low reporting standards have fallen these days about literally every topic. They have gone past caring about truth and have flat out stopped caring about relevancy.

Sorry, but I've seen the video in question. He's never in the same shot as the crowd and there's nothing to suggest it was shot recently. NK is perfectly capable of faking this kind of thing. They're a police state that specializes in propaganda.

Plus, he looked a little off in it too. Like he wasn't feeling well. His movement and behavior was abnormal for someone who is supposedly in good health. Until they can prove beyond a reasonable doubt he's perfectly fine I'm going to remain skeptical.
