I think that there is something wrong with him for sure, but I don't think he's dead. If he was dead they'd do a huge national day of mourning and an elaborate funeral like they did for Kim Jong-Il. Chances are he's quite ill and hiding so that the people don't see him in a weakened state.

I am honestly glad he is alive and well. His continued presence does feel like a barometer that things haven't gone completely to shit in a time when things are going to shit.
