In a similar vein of thought, Hannah Arendt and Franz Kafka were basically correct about the warped industrialized hell-scape that swallowed humanity beginning in the late nineteenth century. We've been reduced increasingly to the status of automata functioning like replaceable cogs in the machine of a regimented and arbitrary society where moral imagination has progressively become a rarity and where the divine and the aesthetic have become contemptible to so-called civilized people who seek to sate only their wanton appetites. Kierkegaard's knight of the faith would be indistinguishable to many from a terrorist fanatic.

You know, this idea of the automatization of humanity and workers was really well-captured by Charlie Chaplin and the original Sonic the Hedgehog (the latter albeit alluding to it less explicitly). The fact that we've been parodying this for years really makes you think about the selfishness of the ruling class and the failings of capitalism. :^|

Not really possible right now because of quarantine, but participating in cultural and religious activities in a communal setting can be a really good way to experience right-wing values without necessarily being overtly political. Cultivating a traditional sensibility one step at a time is the best way to change society.

Ngl I find it kind of funny that the Slavs hated them for being tyrants while the Nazis hated them for being too benevolent to the Slavic populace.

Funnily enough, Karl spent a lot of time pardoning falsely accused Slavic soldiers.

There was a paranoia among the Austrian officers that their slavic soldiers were trying to undermine the military.

I'd argue that it extends well beyond the ruling class and capitalism, however. The problem is hegemonic and occurs no less frequently among the dregs and anti-establishment segments of society or in many of the modern challenges to the capitalist order. Socialism, in particular, earns my contempt on that front because it still discusses man solely in terms of his labor in many cases and such narrow discussions, even when animated with quasi-religious zeal, do not raise us above the level of Sisyphus. Some socialists went and still do go beyond this but that requires a break with the conventional talking points and theory.

To some degree, but the subservience and dehumanization of laborers under capitalism labor is criticized and discarded by socialism in favor of a (nominal) valuation of workers beyond being simply automata. Certainly, purely worker-focused forms of socialism are a problem and we should be incorporating social justice beyond solely economic matters, but I don't think capitalism and socialism can be considered equally bad with regards to this, if you get my drift.

I've always been a real bloomer but... I dunno man, the race riots have got me feeling bleak. It's never been this bad before. It's LA 1992, but everywhere. I remember Ferguson and all the other smaller incidents that have happened before, but those never really dampened my optimism.

What absolutely slays me as of recent, is how people all across social media are justifying and supportive of the murder and mayhem. I'm a generally chill guy, but that so many people are not only okay with the anarchy and violence but supportive of it astounds me! Like it were that people just gave up on civil society because violence seemed more cathartic and convenient. People are even trying to compare the butchery in the streets to the Boston Tea Party.

There is no coming back from Lord of the Flies. You don't just go back to normal after cheering on looters as they burn down your neighbors business and beat him senseless in the streets. If anarchy and barbarism was the great American democracy that the founding fathers had conceived of, then American democracy was a mistake.

There is an interesting take I read about the Civil Rights movement, integration, and busing that occurred after World War II in Northern cities. The Democratic Party in the North was largely a contest between wealthy whites (usually Yankee Protestants) who based their power in their business connections, and white ethnics (Irish, Italians, Poles) who based their power in their ethnic neighborhoods and local political machines. While the end to segregation in the South was motivated primarily by moral terms, the shit that went down in Northern cities was an ethnic power play by wealthy whites to break-up the power of European ethnic neighborhoods in many cities by essentially destroying their communities and forcing them to move to the suburbs to dilute their power.

In response to this, white ethnics went overwhelmingly for Nixon.

Not sure if this is 100% true, and I'll have to find the article, but it was pretty interesting.
