I know the porn industry sucks and all that, but are there any particular reasons why creating/consuming it is inherently bad? I feel like it’s degrading but that could just be me not being into it, and how do you quantify what’s degrading anyway?

Porn is bad for you.

First it makes you think about sex and women in a really unnatural way. It's ok to have sexual fantasies and desires but expressing them through pornography is dangerous because it presents as reality when in fact its fantasy.

Secondly fantasy is addictive and porn addiction is real. For those who have powerful fantasy, if it can only be matched in porn they tend to turn to pornogrpahy as a form of "experience machine" where they can get unlimited satisfaction.

Thirdly it's extremely misogynistic. Despite what the thread may say about me I am not a misogynist and I don't advocate this tier of misogyny. You can learn some bad habits and bad ways to treat women from pornography.

Try to watch less porn and develop healthier habits if you can.

Point 2 I agree with, points 1 and 3 would depend, and generally are that way because of the nature of the industry, not the inherent nature of the medium.
And I worded that poorly, by “not into it” I meant I am not into watching porn (lest my identity as a good Christian boy be bescmirched) But this and ND’s valid point still don’t really get to why it’s inherently wrong no matter how “ethical” or non-misogynistic. But I guess that’s a pretty abstract question, as it’s difficult to separate the medium from the type of content it always consists of.

economic transactions are inherently coercive under a capitalist system
sex performed under coercion is sexual assault
ergo, any sex mediated by an economic transaction is sexual assault
ergo, professional or otherwise monetized pornography is sexual assault, so participation in the industry (whether as a producer or consumer) is inherently fueling sexual assault. the one exception on the producer end is if one person is dealing with the entire operation, so like a camgirl type thing where it is monetized but a one-man/woman operation -- however, consuming such content is still engaging in sexual matters under coercion.
