Yeah it's really weird. Assassins Creed has sucked for awhile now tbh. Imagine turning Alfred the Great into a clear villain.

Assassins Creed has generally the tendency to turn one faction or other into the evil one and the other into the good for narrative purposes. Comes with the terretory and is kinda lame and shit. It's lazy pop history at tis worst.

Given that series like MGS did it so much more better and nuanced.

Honestly the series could be really good by dropping you into a bunch of different time periods without that shitty plot that tries to link it all together.

I agree, the problem with the series is the stupid and unnecessary Manichean subplot.
That forces them to make it good vs evil.

Rather than just picking a time frame and letting you act as an assassin/spy in it.
Actually it would be cool if the maybe it more like Fallout New Vegas, where you can support either side, (and have more than two possibly) or try to play multiple sides against the other.

If you had the New Vegas mechanic done well in a historical game in a cool time period it could be pretty great.
