"I made a mistake the other day. I was trying to make an analogy between new medicines, and the disinfectant people use on their floors and surfaces. I muddled it up and people got the wrong idea of what I meant. There are medicines that show some promise this is true, but you should only take them if prescribed to you by your doctor. Only then. Do not take your family member's medicine, do not take a double dose of medicine, do not take medicine you bought on the internet. Only the medicine prescribed to you, by your doctor, and in the dose prescribed by your doctor. And let me be very clear about this: do not drink bleach, or disinfectant, soap or drain cleaner. Do not deliberately inhale any of those things. Do not inject any of these things. Disinfectant is for floors and surfaces, don't even use it on food preparation surfaces unless you rinse it off afterwards. Bleach, disinfectant, lye and so on are poisonous. Let me say that again, poisonous. They will make you sick, they can cause you permanent injury, and they can even kill you if you let them into your body in any way. Once again I apologize for speaking unclearly a few days ago, and in particular I apologize to anyone who took my words as advice. Get in touch with your local department of health, they'll get back to me, and there will be a check with my name on it for you poor people. I'm very sorry and I'll try never to make a mistake like that again."

*astonished silence from press corps*

NYT reporter: Mr President, did you just apologize AND admit to having been wrong? I'm sorry to state the obvious but ...

President: Haha, got you AGAIN. I was just being sarcastic!

Do note that with his "I was being sarcastic to fuck with the media" statement he also admitted he did not mean to say "we need something that works like a disinfectant, but then inside the body" - but really meant "we should study if injecting disinfectant is a good idea".

What I note with that is him trying to save face for fucking up. Which he did.

What? When did that happen?

It's been a thing for years at this point.

That's but one source, there are uncountably many articles and videos on the topic.

Personally I would have the peddlers charged with attempted murder and the kids removed from their parents trying to negligently kill them off but alas.

figurative kool aid!

It's a well-known expression "drink the kool aid" but I wish people understood it's real significance. Too often people mean that a follower is tricked into doing bad things, but that's not what happened at Jonestown. Apparently the people knew that the "kool aid" would kill them, that it was suicide to drink it, and almost all of them did. They were so brainwashed etc, you can quibble they didn't take the decision willingly because they were in no mental state to be responsible for their own actions, but all that should be bundled in the meaning of the phrase. They weren't lied to, they weren't told the grape-flavored whatever would cure their disease. They were told to kill themselves and they did.

Oh, and it was Flavor Aid not Kool Aid.

*buys shares in Kool Aid* :p

Far as I can tell, it was talking about the emergency hotline calls from earlier.

And by doing so he made it worse.
Had he gone with the "obviously I meant we need something like a disinfectant for inside the body" instead of "haha, I wanted the media to look stupid with no care at all for what the people of the nation would do!" it would have looked less... maniacal.

That’s what I thought, but that’s not how the Spanish channel is reporting it. Which is why I’m also trying to find an English source. I provided a translation of the written news however. If I find an English source, I’ll link to it. If not, disregard this.

I believe though the people here who drank the kool aid upon Trumps statement had, probably, already being conditions such as mental health issues of the one or other kind or other of problems already.

Their followers knew they would die. Convincing people to die is not the same as convincing people that something that will obviously kill them will save their lives. And I would never have thought that it's possible.

No it's not the same. I somewhat regret bringing up Jones's cult, it was bound to lead to false equality to Trump's followers.

The cult did believe in heaven, so there's that. Suicide isn't completely irrational if you believe it's a way to heaven.

Ok, I’ve kept looking and it seems Antena3 mistook the spike in calls to poison centers in both NY and Maryland with “100 people being admitted to hospital for drinking disinfectants and lye” since 100 is the number of calls about this topic the Maryland center reported receiving. Disregard the link I provided. It can’t be substantiated.

So was there 100 people still injecting or drink disinfectants as per the spike in phone calls?

No matter what way Trump spins this, he looks like an ass. If he was being serious then he's a tard, and if he was doing this to own the libs, it means he doesn't take the situation seriously and he was willing to cause deaths just to fuck with CNN. In other words he's still a shitty president no matter how you try to spin this. It's just like when he was intimidating witnesses during the Russia investigation. Either he's doing it because he colluded with Russia, he's doing it because he did something else illegal and doesn't want it coming out, or he's a dumbass that intimidates witnesses over a crime he didn't commit.

Here's an educational video explaining what happens in the body when you drink Rubbing Alcohol in order to kill the Corona virus. It gets somewhat gross in its descriptions (not depictions), but it's useful information.

I can’t say. My impression is that those calls were to ask if it was ok or not to drink disinfectants to treat CoVID19 because of Trump’s suggestions. That press conference has resulted in an aggressive pushback by FDA and some cleaning product companies in regards to telling people not to use disinfectants to treat coronavirus. That it could result in damage or in death.

I can see it now. Jones goes to the big tub of Kool Aid powder to make his followers a nice drink. But he's out. So he calls in a loyal follower and orders them to go buy more Kool Aid. But they're run the shop right out of it, all the loyal follower can manage is some packets of Flavor Aid. Jones is not happy, but since that's all there is, he mixes up all the Flavor Aid and takes a sip. Oh no. What. Is. This. Shit. Right then, fuck it. Can't live without Kool Aid, we all have to die. Followers are all like, noooo, really? We have to drink Flavor Aid now? I'd rather die. And so they do.

*buys more shares in Kool Aid*

The people claiming that we should open up the restrictions because it's only the old and vulnerable who are affected should read this:

5 young New Yorkers with mild COVID-19 cases were recently hospitalized with strokes. Doctors say the coronavirus can cause blood clots.

Oxley told the Australian Broadcasting Co. that strokes have been observed in older COVID-19 patients, but this new trend was concerning because it involved younger patients in their 30s and 40s with mild symptoms.

I love Chubby Emu.

And it shouldn't have to be explained that anything that will harm you if you ingest it will do even more damage if you inject it, but I'm sure there are already people who think Trump is a genius who have ordered some needles so they can inject rubbing alcohol.

Well after the 19th argument with my family in 3 days, I really cannot wait for this lockdown to end. They've been pushing me to find a second job, which is weird considering that #1 next to no one is hiring because everything is shut down and #2 the few places hiring like the grocery store are the places I would most likely catch COVID. My mom has been having a fucking spaz attack over COVID like this is the black plague (it isn't, this virus isn't the flu but it's more similar to the flu in morality than it is to the bubonic plague), but then wants me to basically put myself at risk for catching COVID.

Big reason I want the shelter in place order to end is so I can go back to spending most of my day away from them.

As evidenced by the spike in calls to poison control centers in both NY and Maryland.

I’m sure they’d rather not have grieving families suing them.

Wonder how many of them had preexisting conditions.

Healthy young people don't usually die from COVID. That has been the consensus since this kicked off.
