An MRE is a Meal, Ready-to-Eat.
A military ration.

But again that would not be necessary as trailers could be swapped at the zone borders. Commercial semi trucks have interchangeable detachable trailers that can be dropped and picked up by another tractor in just a few minutes.
And I doubt your hike took you outside the NYC area.

There are places that are doing this. If yours isn't and you are able to maintain proper social distancing in your hikes (we walk every evening after everyone's indoors), you shouldn't have a problem. Now, if your area institutes stringent measures like I know PR has done (Sundays it's stay in or you'll be fined/arrested if you don't), then yes, you could be arrested.

Because different places have different peak times and different levels of risk, dividing into the country into zones, allowing some restrictions to be lifted some places sooner would be a good idea. But to make it work you would have to restrict non essential travel between zones.
It is that simple really.
The problem, however, is not just the quarantine measures. There’s also the economic collateral damage from all this, which is going to wipe out people’s livelihoods and savings. People are going to lose a lot; and the Government frantically injecting cash into the System, and printing currency up the wazoo is not going to help anybody. I’m much more concerned about the unrest from the economic downturn, and the political, social, and economic ramifications from that, than I am about the quarantine or the virus itself.
The Elites are looking out for themselves and their fat cat cronies on Wall Street: the multinational corporations, big banks, and all the other “Too Big to Fails”; handing bailouts like loot bags at a 5 year old’s birthday party; while telling the average Joe there’s just not enough money to help out him and his family, and he can only expect to receive a couple of months worth of Government cheques. This is going to enrage people; and if it persists long enough, with no solution or no distraction there will be blood in the streets and politicians hanging from lampposts. To prevent this unsavoury ending, our Rulers will doubtless seek to engineer some foreign adventure or other catastrophe, so as to take our attention off our economic woes and the corruption and ineffectivity of the System. That’s where things get really dangerous, and where Major Wars tend to be fought. I think the next few years are going to be quite the bumpy ride.
