Look, I'd agree with that, but I have to qualify that China's influence hasn't increased that much. Direct funding from member nations is only a fraction of the WHO's funding.

This time China had great influence on the WHO's knowledge and advice because the disease started in China. The WHO doesn't cast a very critical eye over information from any country (perhaps they should, perhaps they will in future) and is pretty much wide open to being lied to.

"Never again" assumes that Trump extends his ban on funding, and actually that he gets re-elected.

Also, I'm aware that of direct national contributors, the US was the largest. But it shouldn't be assumed that it had 40% of the influence (that being the percentage of assessed funding) because WHO's budget is actually much bigger. $5 billion. US contributions last year were $100 million.

Most Southeast Asian countries with the exception of Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines are actually doing very well. Brunei managed to flatten its curve very rapidly. Thailand has managed to flatten theirs. Malaysia's taking a little longer, but we're getting there.

Thailand should be second place behind china, chronolocgically, as most lying nation about infection numbers.

Thailand was the first nation to be infected outside china, as early as the 18th of january (if i remember right) 13 January, and once they reached 30 reported cases, the reporting was nationalized, and the reporting of new cases stopped entirely for more than one month.

This sudden tiptoeing around China and the WHO because "muh racist conspiracy theories" is just the latest addition to the Left's growing list of unforgivable betrayals of some of the very peoples they once regarded as victims of social and political injustice.

That's what outrage culture does, it lacks any long term coherence, and it sees people as just outrage vectors, and not as, people.

It's naive to think otherwise, but it would be nice if at least during a pandemic the politicizing could take a trip day away.
