You can't blame me for seeing that when it says "black African deaths three times that of white britons." Like why didn't they just say "black briton" then?

Because they don't speak American in Britain.

I didn't know that only Americans refer to each other by their nationality, instead of calling people "africans" only when they aren't in Africa.

I think there's a good reason to say "black Africans" which Americans might miss. Significant immigration of "white Africans" from South Africa and Zimbabwe.

So people aren't allowed to draw parallels or make comparisons with historical events now?

What the bloody hell are you talking about? There is a global appocolypse which is happening right now as we speak. It is her job to protect Australia from said global appocolypse, and she has one of the country's most senior roles in this task. Why is she comparing the current global appocolypse that she's tasked with mitigate to the unrelated actions of a man who died a quarter of a millennium ago?

I personally wish we weren't even using these color terms, but if we must, I still think it makes more sense to call them Black African Britons than just black africans.

But you do you Britain. I know you don't want a random American telling you how to run your nation.

African Americans almost never have an African nationality. It's code for African ancestry not nationality.

If we're talking ethnicity then it's black African or black Caribbean. If we're talking nationality then it's just British or what ever country they're a citizen of, no qualifiers. The qualifier thing is peculiar to America. Ethnicity is useful medically, nationality is less so.

And the black bit is their choice. Hence the BAME acronym.

Australian remember. We say "Australian of x (+y) background" when it's necessary. Police reports say "person of x appearance". Covers cop ass so they don't have to distinguish an Indian from an Indonesian.

We never had much of a slavery problem, that makes things a lot easier. But we're like Americans when it comes to the native (pre-invasion) population. There's not such thing as too respectful, Aborigines take offense very easily.

Yea, but this an appocolypse. An appocolypse happening here and now as we speak. Not only is it her job to mitigate the appocoloypse, but she has an extremely senior position in this task. For her to turn around and compare said appocolypse to the unrelated actions of someone who died 250 years ago is extremely inappropriate, irrespective of her position. It's insensitive to the victims of Covid and their loved ones.

What would she say to the family member of a victim? "I know this disease killed your brother yesturday, and it is my job to eradocate this disease, but I want to remind you that some dude killed some other dude 250 years ago. So you know, let's compare the two..." it's insensitive and dammed inappropriate, especially given the timing. I can't fault her for saying stupid stuff. We're all human, we all say stupid stuff. But the only reason I can think of her saying this specifically is to virtue signal. Virtue signalling during an Apocolypse that you're supposed to mitigate is inappropriate

People in the UK still talk about the Blitz spirit and Keep Calm and Carry Own. It's pretty common to reference historical disasters and how the country got through it as a motivational technique.

Also, the Aborigines are Australians too. Perhaps she was talking to them, trying to reassure them that they won't get fucked over yet again by the Australian government because this time you're all fighting Captain Cook together. Just a thought.

Hmm, she's from Victoria. 0.9% Aboriginal, the lowest of any state.

The highest percentage is actually the Northern Territory (not a state), with 30%. That's the place ArP reporting as most forward in lifting the lockdown.

There's not much Annaliese van Diemen can do for Aborigines, but she could start by not making any more dumb tweets.

Johnson fucked up the response to the pandemic, is in charge of the party that's largely responsible for the NHS being as fucked as it is at present as well as crippling austerity measures that have resulted in the deaths of quite a large number of people before the coronavirus tore through poorer, deprived areas.

I don't want anyone to die of Coronavirus but honestly, if someone's gotta die of it I would have been more than happy for it to have been him.

Not sure how "I'm glad he survived" and "I don't want anyone to die" is advocating death.

I really suggest reading that last bit again. Ideally, nobody would die of this. However, the person responsible for the slow response, who is partially responsible for the shit state of the NHS and is partially responsible for austerity measures that resulted in deaths before Covid probably 'derserves' to die much more than many of those who have already died.

Of course, illnesses don't work like that so the entire thing is completely hypothetical.
