I just read the Republican proposal in their New Bill and HOLY FUCK IS IT SCARY.

They wanna reopen dine in restaurants on the 16th of May and wanna reopen theaters, bars, gyms and nightclubs like the day after. It's like they wanna end all restrictions.

To be honest, you may be able to slowly reopen businesses in lesser hit areas, but dine-in is something I would wait for until late June.

I want the stay at home order to end before memorial day. I do not, I repeat DO NOT, want all restrictions lowered until like August at earliest.

I want it all to return to normal, but the normal I remember doesn’t exist anymore, Rojava. I want to be able to sit at our local teppanyaki and dine-in but my wants matter not to this virus and its transmission. I’m not trying to be ugly with you, mind you. However, this also requires a strict, aggressive, and uncompromising plan to protect employees and vulnerable populations and support them during their quarantine. All of the failures of this pandemic directly relate to taking action in this regard.

You dont but if I’m not mistaken, the masks are for staff. In my home we’re going keep self-isolating until mid to late June.

Doubtful, even if the whole of the West frooze entries from China, there would still be spread throughout countries that can't take hostile actions against them, and that would likely spread to the West before they could respond.

A team like that could’ve helped with the action plan (the gods know this administration has been total shit at managing the emergency) but although we stopped China flights, we didn’t stop service to-from Europe. The virus was already here.

To be fair to China, I don't think there was a lot they could have done either given the facts and circumstances. Something clearly went wrong at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and most likely by the time the local officials found out it was well beyond the point of containment. They probably thought this was a SARS virus that could be easily contained like in 2003 and reacted in the wrong way, leading to it spreading worldwide.

This virus was the result of a containment breach at the Wuhan lab so the CCP tried to cover it up, the aftermath is our fault but we can't forget the source of the pandemic.

It has to be population-density based - it would be most likely harmless to reopen fully in less densely populated suburbs and rural areas, but doing so in cities would be unnecessarily risky. It's increasingly clear that the threat posed by this virus scales with population density.

I agree with that. Rural areas are at less risk ... and yet, state governments should ask before easing restrictions there. It might just be that rural people want to keep their own infection rates very low, and maybe they aren't hurting as badly from restrictions anyway.

I've also got some concern that if restrictions are lifted outside the big cities, city people might think it's time for a holiday in the country ...

So let the virus spread how it will in the general community, but somehow keep it out of hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities?

How do you do the latter? Those places all have employees who live in the general community. Are you going to lock them into the hospital etc?

People should wear masks, providing it doesn't give them a sense of invulnerability. Masks should be easily available (can't do that? blame your government) and people should be encouraged to wear them in public and at work.

Ordering people to wear masks, I somewhat agree with you. In public it could be optional. Having a mask makes some people behave worse, those people probably wouldn't wear one if they weren't ordered to ... then we could see them coming "oh look, it's an irresponsible asshole, I'll cross the street" ... but I think businesses should be allowed to require masks for their staff and customers. Customer isn't wearing an adequate mask, or isn't wearing it right, staff could tell them to leave.

Is that confirmed? I thought tests had (somehow) confirmed it was a 'natural' disease occurring in an animal?
