Well the guy did touch a bunch of little boys........as he was rescuing them from a cave before they died.

Politico never implied anyone was celebrating. Holy fuck guys.
Nope, just that they should not be too quick to celebrate at the death of men.
Btw, in common parlance, that phrase is used to mean "I know that sounds good, but..."
This phrase:that’s not exactly cause for celebration.
Is contextually used in a number of other contexts, notably, in 2012, regarding the economy:An increase in the rate of economic expansion — estimated at nearly 3 percent in the final three months of last year — has given rise to the improvement. But that’s not exactly cause for celebration, as the U.S. unemployment rate remains relatively high at 8.3 percent as of last month (and that’s not counting those who have given up looking for work).

IE, this is a good thing, but don't pop the cork just yet, even though it sounds like a positive thing on the surface.
That's what that phrase means.

No, I'm not. It starts out by saying there's only degrees of bad news, and btw the pandemic is worse for girls and women.
It then said that more men are dying than women, and implied this is a good thing, in fact, a cause for celebration, but don't celebrate just yet, because bad things are happening to women as a result of covid.
It then goes into healthcare stats (which aren't well supported, incidentally, if you follow the link - they don't actually figure out how many "essential workers" are men vs women, so no meaningful comparison can occur), and women wind up doing more chores and child education, then goes into talking about domestic violence as if it's only a thing that impacts women, and talks about unplanned pregnancies.
So that's all the bad news, and that bad news more than outweighs the good news regarding that it's the men who are disproportionately dying.
Just like the economics piece. There's good news that men are dying (and in 2012, that the economy was expanding), but there's still a lot of bad news out there that women are suffering from (and, in 2012, there was still a lot of unemployment). That's the context.

There's no implication that it wouldn't be better if the virus went away and everyone stopped dying.

COVID’S WAR ON WHITE PEOPLE — During this plague year, there is almost never good news, only degrees of bad news. Even so, the pandemic has been different (and worse) for caucasians.
It’s true that more black people are dying than white people from Covid-19 around the world — but that’s not exactly cause for celebration.
Another ambivalent data point: More workplace risk is falling on white people, who are more likely to be considered essential workers. The upside to that is still having a job, but at what price? Sweden’s Foreign Minister Ann Linde pointed out today in a POLITICO interview that “70 percent of those working in health care and elderly care are white.”

It was either bad writing or actual hatred of men that went into that statement being in the article.
I've just been figuring it was bad writing and editing, but you can't defend what was written. It was shitty. I'm surprised you're trying.

I never said it was quality journalism. It's stupid filler because they ran out of real news.

Of course not. But, it's better for men to die than women, and in fact a cause for celebration that this is the case.
Because of the ideological shell game that has been placed on the public for many years (and possibly centuries), it's important to phase this in the appropriate correlative context.

And what percentage of Sweden's population is white?

The point being made was that swapping "female"/"woman" with "white" and "male"/"man" with "black" gets you a text that reads kinda racist (they're dismissing the suffering of blacks, and are in fact (if you read one of Gallo's other posts) celebrating the suffering of blacks).
That Sweden is 70% white is irrelevant, because the point being made is not that Sweden's 70% white, but that swapping a few words around gets you a text that reads racist.
