I wish we had been more prepared. It isn't wishful thinking to imagine a world where the choice didn't come down to lock down or save the economy and let people die.

Indeed. Hopefully governments will learn, at least for a time, that emergency services and backup plans aren't just 'fat' to be trimmed so you can have more money to buy votes with tax cuts.

Well, no. It's mostly one dude who won't let up and everyone else telling him that's silly. It's still half the thread, but it's mostly that one guy just acting like one of those clown punching balloons.

It really seems consistent with a lot of the things I've noted in the thread in the past, especially an analysis of the ILI data and some anecdotal experiences I noted in my own life. Just saw an article that notes this virus was circulating in New York in January - I think we actually have massive spread and herd immunity at this point.

I need to see the updated CDC ILI data for this week to confirm my hypothesis.

Selfishness is not survival of the fittest because humans are tribal species. You hoard like this away from the clan, your ass is surviving on the savanna by yourself.

Shoutout to all the single moms who continue to order Chinese clothes of wish.com.

In all seriousness, I am from Michigan, the fourth highest state in terms of Coronavirus cases, higher than California even.

Let me just try to explain the situation from a Michigander perspective. Once populated towns are now ghost towns, considering schools are shut down for the year, resturants are closed, sports are closed, public gatherings are closed, parks are closed. etc. Detroit has basically been gated off. Gov. Whitmer blames Donald Trump for not doing something about it in a nice spam email sent to everyone in the state.

This should not be the federal governments complete responsibility. Governors should be able to do their job and provide medical supplies and funding in these sorts of times. She made a statement saying all the supplies the fed. government gave were used in one hospital shift. Maybe if she added any sort of help or stimulus at all, this wouldn't be the case. But no, Whitmer is doing nothing besides boring schoolchildren and enforcing (basically) martial lae in hopes of the dissipation of the virus, completely ignoring the big cities pleas and plight. This is not a federal issue.

Travel and trade sn't affecting the domestic situation. Besides, travel was handled efficiently in my opinion, and trade and the stocks are naturally taking a huge dip, as they are in all nations.

If the world weren't so economically dependent on China, they could have banned all travel from there the instant word of a new SARS-like disease got out and they could have stopped this problem before it even started.
