The other issue we are running to is living patterns by age. Millennial and Gen are more likely to live in urban centers than Boomers and Gen Xers who prefer the suburbs.

So while death rates of the young might be lower most of the cases are among younger people. Nearly 40% of hospitalizations are for younger people. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/18/heal ... eople.html

So in summation Stay the Fuck inside Young people.

I plan to avoid mass gatherings for a long time to come. Before the lockdown I would go to the mall at like 8:30 when it was almost empty or I would go to the park. I'm not going to electricity again till like 2022. Screw that.

So I managed to get time off from work. Thank god, I feel so much better and I can relax for a few weeks, and I can keep my job (I had quitting as a backup).

Man, we're such trash as a country. These other countries are giving their citizens fucking $1,500 to $2,000 a month until this is over and we can't even give everyone a one time payment of $1,200? How do we keep calling ourselves the greatest country in the world? We're by far not.

There's still no vaccine for SARS or MERS so I wouldn't hold out too much hope. What's more likely is that the virus becomes less virulent and more predictable so we can manage it.

We can deal with deaths, we just don't like unpredictable and unmanageable deaths.

Way too many people are still shopping at places like Lowe's. But apparently Seattle's traffic is only at 8% of its normal traffic. EIGHT PERCENT. I think this is the main reason my state hasn't seen a rapid increase in cases lately. The densely populated areas are listening, even if mine isn't.

If a vaccine can’t be found we can’t have lockdown season every year or get rid of mass gatherings forever

Given the system can predict and manage the outcome it'll just be a thing, like road deaths or cancer or the normal flu, or a million other things that kills us every year but can be predicted and accomodated.

The issue at the moment is it's overwhelming health services, morgues, supply chains etc., because it's unpredictable.

Half the issue is that it arose in China, which no one trusts and that adds to the level of uncertainty.

Having said that, I think the world could do with an annual shutdown February, where every non-essential factory, flight and unnecessary travel is shut down for a month to allow the planet to breathe a little. Over time that too would be accommodated by the system.

Too bad, no more mass gatherings lockdowns forever and they're going to declare martial law and force you to quarter soldiers in your home. They'll insist on trying to talk to you while you're in the bathroom.

Everyone in this thread has explained to you what's going to happen and what's not going to happen and you keep repeating the same things over and over and over.

Considering the expected end amount of people to catch the thing is between 40% and 60%, you're absolutely right.

There is no scenario where I don't bury a couple family members over this. I have come to accept it.

Why would there be a vaccine for SARS or MERS? The former died out completely in 2003, after which any funding for vaccine research stopped and MERS has only had around 2,500 cases in 8 years so it has undoubtedly been left on the back burner if any work whatsoever was being done. Of course, in hindsight maybe we should have considered those to be a warning...

That being said, there will undoubtedly be vaccines available next year. Treatments will bridge the gap of any "second wave" after this one burns out in a month or so, although I highly doubt there will in fact be a second wave for a few reasons/

If my mom catches this, I know she won't survive. If you thought I was depressed before, my life would be absolutely hellish if I lost my mother.

There is so much regret I have over how our relationship turned out, that if she died, I would feel like I wasted so many years bitching over worthless shit. I refuse to accept this possibility because I know there would be no way I would recover from it. I've not recovered from alot of things that have happened to me, and that would be the straw that broke the camel's back.

Wait, what? We're predicting liberally 240,000 deaths, that would imply, really, 2-3 odd million US cases. The CDC, they're saying we might land around that two million mark nationally case wise.
