Some of my friends have referred to me as Bob Ross in the past, a random drunk (she was really cute too) at a bar was so convinced, she asked me for my autograph :) I didn't have the heart to tell her that I had been dead for years, so instead I drew a picture of a happy little tree, and signed it, she swooned :D

That's a great story.

I am closing in on a celebration of my having become Delegate in Lazarus. To go from "that guy who made funny polls and somehow survived various coups because he wasn't really connected to the government at the top" to this is pretty cool. :)

Not the thread we deserve, but the thread we need! A few things that make me happy:

Rescuing a newborn kitten found on the street! It's really tough to care for baby animals who have lost their mothers, and many people understandably focus on other things, but that just makes the people who spend time on it that much more admirable.

The descendants of the American founding fathers recreate the famous "Declaration of Independence" painting in a photo shoot. I think it's a great photo because it creates a greater sense of history being full of real people, and comparing the two side-by-side is a powerful illustration of how the country has changed and grown over the past nearly 300 years, expanding to include all kinds of different people on the center stage. It kind of reminds of that Captain Picard quote about how there's room for both tradition and progress in the world.

A little boy always wanted a dog growing up, but his dad was allergic. Before he sadly passed way from cancer, Dad arranged for his son to be surprised with a puppy as one last gift from him.

Old but good, groups from 156 countries arrange to sing The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" simultaneously to raise awareness of AIDs in Africa.

An abstract artist with synesthesia (a condition that crosses the senses in the brain) paints the way her condition makes her see certain music. She has a Facebook page. Kandinsky would be proud.

On a more personal note, I'm excited for the upcoming new album of my favorite band, The Cab. They're relatively obscure but I still love them. My favorite song by them is "Endlessly."

So reacting to other people's posts by complaining about the cheesiness of lasagna, sharing your lactose intolerance (serious though that undoubtedly is), or how watching the Joy of Painting puts you to sleep isn't quite in the spirit of the thread.

If something makes someone else posting in this thread happy, then try and be positive and supportive about it; and if you can't be positive and supportive because it's something you don't like, can't eat, or you find boring, then maybe don't post a reply.

This isn't remotely an official - or even unofficial - moderator action; just a gentle reminder of what we're trying to accomplish here.

Understood. But the joy of painting putting me to sleep thing is a good thing not a bad. His voice is super soothing. So when I have trouble sleeping i always watch it. Hence why I fall asleep while watching it.

In the future happiness department, we may get to see a naked-eye comet later this year:

Eddie Irizarry wrote:If predictions are correct, Comet ATLAS might reach a visual magnitude of +5 around May 1, 2020. That is theoretically bright enough to be see with the eye, but the fuzziness of faint comets can make them harder to spot than comparably bright stars. When looking for fuzzy objects, it’s best to use averted vision: explanation here.

How bright will the comet get after that? Estimates of Comet ATLAS’s peak brightness range from magnitude +2 to -6 during perihelion or closest approach to the sun, but please know that many comets fizzle and never reach their expected brightnesses. We will have to wait and see

Anything brighter than magnititude +2 is easy to see, and if it gets brighter than -4 it'll be the brighest thing in the sky at night (other than the Moon, if it's up).

The article has a linked video of what the comet looks like now through a telescope.
