Scientists at CERN discover the first of a (possibly) new class of particles, the charmed tetraquark. Two mesons halfhazardly glued together, I love it.

A quark is a subatomic particle which, in various combinations, makes up most everything in the universe. aLl of their combinations are lumped together under the classification of hadrons. In triplets, they combine to form bosons, which are like your run-of-the-mill proton and neutron in the atom. They come in a couple of flavors. up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom. They have fractional charges and they can not exist by themselves.

Mesons are a quark and antiquark of the same flavor held together by the Strong Nuclear Force.

Also I was wrong before a tetraquark is comprised of two light quarks and two heavy quarks (their masses vary), but in this case it is essentially two mesons stitched together. It's an exotic hadron and this is the first time a tetraquark has been 100% confirmed to exist, there have been candidates since the turn of the century.

Also it was under the name X(6900) before verification. Nice.

No, a physics major in college who wants to specialize in high-energy physics (and particles are high-energy physics).

Im confused. Bosons are another name for proton and neutron? and what's a hadron? Physics isn't my strong suit

Part of this is my fault because I'm getting nomenclature confused, but what can I say, there's a lot of buzzwords and jargon to filter.

This chart is helpful. If whatever I said contradicts the chart, follow the chart.

It is, I'm not an expert and I'm only trying my best.

Fermions are particles with non-integer spin, Bosons have integer spin, Hardrons are made of quarks, Baryons are Hadronic fermions and are your neutrons and protons (triplets of quarks), Mesons are Hadronic bosons and are the pairs that I mentioned before. non-Hadronic Bosons are also force carriers, which govern how things like electricity and fission reactions work. non-Hadronic Fermions have electrons and tend to be lighter than hardons.

Spin is essentially a quantum equivalent to angular momentum, except these particles don't actually spin.

On the topic of myself, in a modest of manners, I have managed to get an iOS application for my school project to be at least 60% working. A few more weeks to go! ^^

This is quite a personal breakthrough for me, because I have never touched Swift (the language for iOS) before and for a first-timer... yeah, learning the ropes quickly and pulling it off is something I hope I can maintain for the next few weeks.

Friday is Polling Day, some election thing for Singapore. Nah, forget the politics, I am apolitical! Plus, I can't even vote since I am a Permanent Resident, not a citizen.

I am just here for the public holiday!

It's so pretty! I like happy colours. But the photosynthetic bacteria will make "spider" silk, so why the picture of the spider is in this article?

The photosynthetic bacteria will produce "spider" silk to create biodegradable materials for medical use, non tearing clothes etc. They need seawater and sunshine...

I'm starting to run Minecraft with no items! I'm able to get to the End in abt 20 minutes on the seed that I'm on - the only problem I'm really having is the dragon, but that's a hurdle I'm slowly starting to overcome.
