He believes in creating a Mad Max tier society. But alas I think his views shouldn be the topic of the thread.

Well Americans, much like quite a number of Britons, have shown they are incapable of partaking voluntarily - so perhaps, yes?

Yeah you are probably against someone being sectioned too.
It's a potential masters dissertation topic of mine, in fact.

Given that it seems to have an incubation period of at most month, the month long cases being extremes, a month and a bit of a lockdown would see it disappearing as a major threat. After that you focus on isolating healthcare workers and those still sick to prevent a second outbreak. You don't have to lockdown for a year. A month however? Yes you can do that. China did, France is currently doing that, Italy is as well, so is Spain.San Lumen wrote:LRON wrote:A balance could have been struck had we not wasted our opportunity. Westerners however are too used to comfort, too soft and with a warped sense of libertas and pietas, mainly by the lack of the latter. So we did nothing. That moment to strike a balance is over, chap. Let me tell you this, as someone with lots of money - the economy will always bounce back. Dead people do not, unless you believe in zombies or something. If scores of people start dying and are being hospitalized and the healthcare system crashes even more severely I can assure you that the economic consequences of that will be far, far more devastating than a lockdown of a month or two. Investors are like zebras, they are easily scared by the slightest movement in the bush let alone if they started being chased by a lion. What you are proposing. Will. Not. Work.
What;'s your solution then? Keep everything closed until there is a vaccine? You;'ll have no economy, unemployment at record highs. almost every business large and small bankrupt and a government default on the debt.

Nah. They're just saving some cash on re-branding literally everything from the medals down to the free condoms in the athlete village.

Generally you can guess that if there's a conflict between civil liberties and anything else, I'm going to come down on the liberty side of the fence.

You're talking about Trump illegally forcing state governments and private organisations to open their doors and suspend locksdowns during a pandemic, it's a bit rich to complain about the constitution being ignored.

Quite ironic that a number of his suggestions to ignore medical advice are no longer allowed after Big Max announcement tonight.

Some have said you might need to do it longer and suggested we might have to do on an off lockdowns

If you have access to the amount of journals that I do, you can find medical advice saying every possible thing under the sun. I'm not sure how the mods are going to work out what's right and what's wrong.

We do it for a month and a bit, two perhaps if necessary and see where that takes us. Given that the Chinese are slowly able to start opening up again after a similar length of time is promising. There is no such thing as fully protecting the economy in events like this. There are acts of nature that will just shock the economy, but the economy will always rise again. Even if there was a depression, it would not be permanent let alone if it was just a recession.

You haven't used them up to now, and using them at this point solely to skirt the fringes of the rule would just be incredibly silly.
And I doubt most of your posts on the subject, which consists of complaining about the inconvenience, would be backed up by medical journals.

If I recall correctly, some elements of what Lincoln did were declared unconstitutional by the courts.
