People were travelling all over the world, infected with and spreading SARS CoV 2, before anyone knew that there was such a thing as SARS CoV 2. How can that possibly have been prevented? How could anyone have acted based on knowledge that nobody had? It's impossible.

Covid 19 is, in a way, worse than Ebola. When people contract Ebola, they pretty quickly get sick and often die. This greatly limits how far the virus can spread. Dead people don't tend to go to spring break. But covid 19 takes weeks to become symptomatic, and is highly contagious. It kills a smaller percentage of the people it infects, yes, but it can infect huge numbers of people. 90% of 10,000 people, as a random illustrative pair of numbers, is smaller than 20% of 1,000,000.
