Well iirc islam says cats are clean. Meanwhile cats infect people all the time. I agree that letting a dog lick you is disgusting (let alone your face). Those are probably the same people who have said they would choose their pets life over that of a stranger.

I always found it interesting that in the last 150~ years humanity went from washing with water to washing with soap, conditioner, shampoo and backing it up with half a dozen other things. While this has certainly helped with disease and smells, I suspect it will eventually lower our ability to resist certain things. Might be thousands of years from now but still.

Trouble is the genus Coronaviridae includes species of the cold virus as well as CoVID19. They're notorious for high mutation rates which can invalidate vaccines quickly. That's why there's no cold vaccine. But we can still hope any vaccine created is effective for a long enough while to gain ground on this little monster.

Mass death is the easy way out of this mess, and it would be massively comforting, at least for me, if we can all die without further pain and suffering from having collectively chosen the wrong people, and not always for the worst of reasons too.

But it we cannot have a painless death, a death without suffering, then we must choose to live painfully. Live with regret, live with recrimination, live with suffering, live with the choices we made, that our elders made for us.

But live, all the same, support each other, all the same, till we get ourselves out of this deep, dark rut.

But there’s a good chance it might not be, and we could see repeated outbreaks in the near future. Things could die down for a few months, or even years, and then suddenly there could be another outbreak. This is why the Government’s draconian containment measures are basically useless; because another strain could come back later down the line and kill tons of people, anyways. Plus, the Economy has already taken irreparable damage, and it may collapse before this whole story is over. People’s lives and livelihoods are being destroyed, and the Government bailing out the major corporations and throwing piecemeal bits of cash at the citizens will not be enough to right the Ship of State. If this goes on long enough, and the Government tries too hard to force people’s compliance, whilst showing themselves powerless to ease people’s economic and socio-political woes, there could be a lot of social unrest and in some countries, even mass revolt. This is definitely going to be one for the History Books, and the World will not be the same, by the time this Crisis has abated.
