Well iirc islam says cats are clean. Meanwhile cats infect people all the time. I agree that letting a dog lick you is disgusting (let alone your face). Those are probably the same people who have said they would choose their pets life over that of a stranger.
I always found it interesting that in the last 150~ years humanity went from washing with water to washing with soap, conditioner, shampoo and backing it up with half a dozen other things. While this has certainly helped with disease and smells, I suspect it will eventually lower our ability to resist certain things. Might be thousands of years from now but still.
*shrugs*. Don’t own a dog then.

Hopefully. I know we’re also banking on that vaccine, which regardless of what this virus does now, we need. Especially if it becomes endemic. There’s worry of that happening too.
The key seems to be finding a treatment that alters/damages/kills the binding of the virus’s spike receptors with us.

Didn't we already know this a week or so ago?

Getting an effective treatment (or multiple treatments, the more the merrier) should be top priority right now since a vaccine is likely further out than treatments could be in terms of R&D and quality control.

The odds of getting an effective vaccine aren't really that great either.

Trouble is the genus Coronaviridae includes species of the cold virus as well as CoVID19. They're notorious for high mutation rates which can invalidate vaccines quickly. That's why there's no cold vaccine. But we can still hope any vaccine created is effective for a long enough while to gain ground on this little monster.
