I wear suits to the beach, albeit not nude beaches (which aren't a thing here in PA, at least to my knowledge).

In that case your church is a cult. Your elders appear to have failed when it comes to instill fear of thinking independently in you, though. Don't let them find out!

Steven Hassan, who created the BITE model, isn't even particularly qualified and has lied about things pretty often. He's not a reliable source of information about cults and tries to expand the definition so that people are afraid of their "growing" influence and buy his books.

Indeed. He’s not really all that qualified. I’ve interacted with Jehovah’s Wirnesses and I don’t think the stereotypes fit.

At the end of the day, there are many religions and variations in what people believe. I think respect for all religions is important and it’s not particularly productive to try to label some groups as cults.

More power to you for being motivated enough in what you believe to want to talk about your faith to others. Not everyone has this kind of passion and fervor and it’s a worthwhile thing. If your church gives you identity, community, purpose, then that’s really a very valuable thing.
