So to recap last night, me and my bro went and grabbed up our friend Brendan, and we stuffed his bike in the back of the car trunk before taking it to his house and throwing it on the driveway. We then drove out to Great Lakes Crossing Outlets, but the mall closed at 7, and we ended up missing it anyhow and ending up in Pontiac. We turned around and ended up going to this park in Macomb Township where we walked up the trailer and got eaten by mosquitos and then we stopped by a liquor store and bought six mikes hards. We threw Brendan behind the wheel and headed to Utica where I chugged three of those shits in like 10 minutes and Josh had 2 before having the third on the walk. And basically we ended up with this: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBiOSKog83z ... q82mk3ce29

There are some film adaptations of books that are very good (I think Dickens, for most modern audiences, works better adapted), but some others range from "fine" to "why, God, why did you let them do this" (the 90s adaptation of Brave New World springs to mind)

I hope it goes well. Stay safe.

Thanks, I am wandering aimlessly about the city today.

So far the bus is empty.

I'm glad the streets don't sound too busy.

True, but it still baffles me, because source material ought to be simple in this case to adapt.
Especially if you focus on first book and not like try to nuclear fusion 2-3 first books of the series into single 90min movie.

Mind you, adaptations where you think it should work well as a fairly simple direct book-to-screen adaptation are sometimes the ones where filmmakers screw up the worst.

Sometimes, screenwriters seem to think, "Meh, I could do better."

Again, I cite the adaptation of Brave New World -- whole plots deleted, new plots added, characters written out, characters written in, characters made homicidal. I'm sorry to mention it twice but... I'm not even sure the screenwriters read the book for that one.

I'm going to guess, one of the bots (Bing, Google, etc...) was probably scanning that thread when someone checked the "Who Is Online" page, and someone looked at the thread and posted (not realising how old it was).

It's a mistake that's easy enough to make, if you don't realise the bots go through the site's ancient history (on the other hand, the bots sometimes boost some quite entertaining threads if you're just bored and browsing).

Always advisable to check the last date of the last post, of course; but I can see how it might be done.

Yep, as far as I can gather, the bots just create searchable indexes of webpages for the various search engines.

It wouldn't be hard to, the forum would just need to detect an HTTP request from an IP belonging to a known Google spider. (In other words, the computer that runs the forums can detect whether a computer trying to access it is a Google bot.)

I think there's a bit more going on than that, though. The forum is probably using a plugin that implements specific functionality for Google.

Perhaps he's willing to be cast then, in order to create the graphics of Doom.

You ever tell yourself you aren't upset about something but you are and you're just lying to yourself?

Last night my brother was talking about this girl he's been seeing named Melissa, and I told him to just jump into the sea of flames and say fuck it. He said "Mark, you're always just going straight to sex. With you and Xhuliano, it's immediately you're fucking the girl on the first date." I laughed and we made it seem like this comical moment but in my head I thought "honestly this is the best I feel like I can expect at this point man." Me and Brendan (the other guy with us who doesn't share blood relation of any sort with me) have basically just given up on this fairy tale romance shit because let's be honest, it's just not realistic.

The best I can expect is the relationship my friend Violette has with her boyfriend, which is turbulence mixed in with some tender moments. They love each other but God they can be so chaotic when put in the same place. They've fallen in and out so many times I can't even count. If I took a shot of just plain old Bud Lite for every time they had issues, I would die of alcohol poisoning right there. That's the best I can expect which is what I thought my previous relationship was (I highly doubt at this point that my last girlfriend had real feelings for me and wasn't just using me which is why I say I thought it was like that). It isn't that I'm "not good enough." No one is. No matter how attractive or intelligent or nice or funny you are, love isn't a fairytale. And people who even have an imperfect but overall happy relationship are honestly a minority.

I've mostly come around to the idea that the sweet tender shit you see in the movies is crap and isn't real and I should just be glad I got friends, but part of me still wishes it was. Idk, I'm just that guy that wishes he lived in a better world. This romance crap isn't even the worst of it. So I say "man I aint even bothered," but deep down yeah I'm still kinda bothered by it. But you can't change reality so there's no point in complaining about the inevitable now is there?

Just speaking about what's on my mind and all. Overall things are pretty good now for me but that has me a little perturbed.

I don't feel too accomplished finishing that Homework, but there're always next ones! Should have used that time to do my work, but ah, I slept heavily.

I even remember the 5.25" even though at my age I definitely should *not.* I found most 3.5" cases to be rather rigid and the 5.25" to be the "actual" floppy one (yes I know it was about the internal film disc)
Should put all my DOS games on the SD card in my A: slot. Sould be appropriate. What's the highest capacity 3.5" I've ever seen... *maybe* 2.something mb? Yeah this shit's a 64gb (tiny and not very) floppy in that A: drive...

I do prefer in-person classes, and I hope in January 2021, I can go back to campus and learn in person, because that way, I won't be as distracted by the internet. That is also why I don't do well notetaking on a laptop during class.

Well, at least with WebEx you can replay the lectures if you miss something on one hearing right? :)

This gives me nightmare flashbacks to law school. It was such a struggle in so many classes to stay awake. Somehow I still graduated. Bad times though. :(

Yeah. For the WebEx lecture for my class last month, I mostly just listened to it while playing some games on a different tab, only checking back whenever the WebEx icon flashed to get my attention. Somehow, I got a 75, though having an open-book exam did help.

I am so glad we didn't have e-lectures back when I was a student. Internet distractions were enough of a problem during all my assignments, and my dissertation.

I hope you can get (safely) back in the class soon. University education is expensive enough as it is.

I hope so: I don't think my classes will be going back until January at the earliest, and I hope they do, if only because of that stats class I need to take for my degree.

Anyway, the weather's forecasting some showers today, and I really need to get the lawn done. I just don't want to.
