Just do the sensible thing folks generally do when virus's are about: avoid large crowds, keep human contact to a necessary minimum (still go to work, but skip the drinks after), and cancel your vacation plans since that combines both of the former things plus the possibility of making the virus, ah, "airborne", if you catch my drift.Chernoslavia wrote:US-SSR wrote:It's a virus. Most masks won't work. Given its persistence and virulence it's not going to be stopped with face masks, hand sanitizers and wet wipes. imo the best thing to do, except if you're a baby, a senior or someone with a resperatory condition, is to go ahead and contract it and take your chances.
Then what gas mask do I need a freaking Mira CM6? Which I do have but fuck.

Not passively airborne, but if you have dozens of people coughing and wheezing around you (which is normal for any public-facing job) then you could catch it. So yes a mask would be most helpful.

every year 30% of the north american population get influenza. that does not seem like an appropriate response to this outbreak.
Unless you're going to follow all the preventative measures medical staff follow then the mask is just a fig leaf. A fig leaf that puts medical staff at vastly increased risk due to shortages.

That's a good point, could I hasten the spread of coronavirus by stockpiling masks?

So people should get masks?
