If it’s democracy, then the Reps are using a democratic tactic by not showing up to vote. It’s annoying? Sure. Should they show up and work by voting? Probably. But this is not an uncommon tactic.

It’s a tatic that should be nipped in the bud. If I don’t show up for a project because I think it’s a waste of time; I would be punished. Obviously goverment works different and they are safe behind “if the people don’t like it they will vote us out”

It's worth noting they could - in Oregon, the governor can send the police to round up legislators to vote.

At the federal level, a majority of present legislators can vote for the same thing if quorum can't be reached.

It's a nuclear option though, and rarely exercised.

If they want to get paid, they’ll work something out. A climate change bill however, if they represent the interests of big industries that will be affected negatively by such a bill, they’ll oppose it.

You send it beacuse it is due process.

Haven't checked in Oregon specifically, but state legislators in most of the US are not paid a living wage. They have other sources of income.
