I’m sure the budgetary bill affects them more directly. Like what they get paid. For that you can bet your ass they will show for.

But what if they are opposed to everything in it?

What do you mean continue without them? Laws apply to all counties not just those that voted for you.

If the GOP doesn't want to show up, then vote without them. Count their votes as abstaining.

Them not showing up means the legislature cannot function. There is no quorum

Indeed. Unless they don’t have the ability to declare a quorum?

It’s a tatic that should be nipped in the bud. If I don’t show up for a project because I think it’s a waste of time; I would be punished. Obviously goverment works different and they are safe behind “if the people don’t like it they will vote us out”

It's worth noting they could - in Oregon, the governor can send the police to round up legislators to vote.

At the federal level, a majority of present legislators can vote for the same thing if quorum can't be reached.

It's a nuclear option though, and rarely exercised.

Because that's tactically foolish.

Imagine you're a defense attorney, and you have come across incontrovertible proof of your client's guilt, but the prosecution doesn't have it. And you have a really good shot at getting her off. Should you send your evidence to the prosecution? Why or why not?

You send it beacuse it is due process.

It's also legally required to do so during discovery process.

As a citizen I’m really tired myself of the constant imbecility of all politicians in this country and the fact that nothing seems to get done, but for all intents and purposes, this is part of these Reps jobs. It’s just annoying as all fuck.

What repercussions?
The Emerald Legion wrote:
Pretty much. Yes. Republican politics works perfectly well with little to no budget.

Ok then tell your republicans leaders in your state to have their members not show up at all. Let us know how it goes.

Given my state is gerrymandered to hell, that wouldn't break quorum and so would be ineffectual.

Quite honestly. Fuck democracy. Democracy is a tool to ensure freedom. Where it fails to do such it should obviously be held to account.

That's why we have these legal tricks built into our government.

Democracy is freedom and liberty and should never be fucked.

Climate bills do not stop freedom.

Because in Oregon, voting for them is losing. By not showing up and grinding things to a halt, the bill doesn’t pass.

The governor could alternatively send the police after them and forcibly bring them back to the floor. But that would turn them into “martyrs” to the constituents they claim to represent.

I see but it still looks childish and downright foolish to do that.

Haven't checked in Oregon specifically, but state legislators in most of the US are not paid a living wage. They have other sources of income.
