I think they'd rather have someone they like as President, fits their political views, and also doesn't threaten their livelihoods in certain ways.

Because they're moderates and liberals? They're still firmly supportive of capitalism. Think of the voters that have been trending Democratic: highly educated suburbans. Why would this professional class want socialism, when they're doing so well under capitalism? Think of social conservatives in the party. Why would they want a revolutionary candidate so opposed to traditional American systems? If Sanders is the nominee, I think Republicans can make an effective argument of how damaging socialist policies would be to America society and the economy. This would be even more effective if Republicans hadn't spent the last decade calling everything mildly social democratic socialist. If Republicans hammered Sanders on what he actually means by socialism, he would have to either renounce socialism or be unelectable.

I also said right after Iowa that I wouldn't choose to endorse anyone who didn't get delegates in all four February states. That only leaves Biden and Bernie.
Oh well.

I'm now begrudgingly endorsing Bernie Sanders in the primary, and will try to advocate on his behalf to my colleagues. I am very worried about Biden's support of the TPP and similar trade deals — both for their destructive impact on Americans, and also that his support of them will likely prove to be a major challenge to retaking the Rust Belt in November. Mr. Sanders has a much more working class centered policy slate, and while he would never be my first choice in this race, he seems to be America's best change right now to actually move towards economic equality and a worker-oriented economy. I will vote (D) in the general election no matter what, but if Mr. Sanders wins the nomination I will actively consider helping out with the campaign. My state is not a contest (it's too late in the primary to matter at all, and its Cook PVI makes is a no-op in November), but I would happily donate and maybe textbank.

I would just like to reiterate that I say begrudgingly for a reason — Mr. Sanders is really my second choice among those still in the race, and my fourth or fifth choice among everyone who ran. But I gave myself strict standards for who I will consider supporting for a reason, and I fully believe that Mr. Sanders is the compromise candidate that I can be most happy with.

Hillary Clinton won my state by 26 points in the 2016 primary; 538 says that Bernie is leading here right now, but not by much (47% chance of victory vs 41% for Biden). Of course, because my state is so late in the primary there is very little relevant polling to judge from, and it's more or less impossible for my state to be a deciding factor (either someone will already have a majority of pledged delegates, or it will be obvious that no candidate will).

The demographics of my state are definitely favorable to Joe Biden, and is one of the reasons why Clinton won so handily in 2016. Of course, the major reason for Clinton's victory was that she was already the presumptive nominee which meant that turnout for Sanders was lackluster anyway.
