What is your stance on the 2006 definition of a planet?

The 2006 definition is very good. There are eight known planets in our system.
42
38%
The 2006 definition should be improved but nonetheless there are eight planets.
20
18%
The 2006 definition is good but we should "grandfather" Pluto into the group of planets.
20
18%
The 2006 definition is not good. Pluto and Eris (and Haumea perhaps) are planets.
12
11%
The 2006 definition is not good and we should accept all dwarf planets and most-likely-dwarf-planets as planets.
10
9%
Regardless, we should accept the spherical moons as planets too.

How does that make sense? How does 'dwarf people are people' mean 'dwarf planets are planets'?

Is the grammar incorrect? because as far as i can tell its perfectly clear English.

Just cause it uses the same word doesn’t mean it means the same thing. Context is key.

*Sigh*

guess i really do have to explain eh.

A dwarf person still does all the things a human does but is just smaller

A dwarf planet still does all the things a planet does but smaller, and slower.

just because its a smaller version of the thing, doesn't mean its a different thing

thus "If dwarf people are still people than dwarf planets are still planets"

A big chunk of the dwarf planet definition is that they don't do the same things as regular planets, namely clear their orbits.

Is this the only qualm you have with advancements in our understanding of various scientific things or do you protest all progress in scientific knowledge?

Well, not necessarily.

If we take the IAU's definition (from good ol' Wikipedia),
A "planet" is a celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (c) has cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit.

Dwarf planets are dwarf planets not because they're small (size is not in the definition, just mass), they're dwarf planets because:
Bodies that fulfill the first two conditions but not the third (such as Ceres, Pluto, and Eris) are classified as dwarf planets, provided they are not also natural satellites of other planets.

(c) isn't fulfilled.
Again from Wikipedia.
Yeah: Egalitarianism, equality

Nah: pointless discrimination, authoritarianism, Brexit, Trump, both American parties, the Conservatives
I flop between "optimistic about the future" and "pessimistic about the future" every time I go on NSG.

Except we have a solid definition of what we understand to be a planet and Pluto doesn't meet the requirements of that definition.

You can compare to dwarf people or dwarf trees or dwarf anything you want, that doesn't change widely accepted science.

What if I specifically get paid to care about whether Pluto is classified as a planet, dwarf planet, moon, or asteroid?

Honestly, just strap some rockets to the far side of the thing, program them to crash it straight into Earth, and call it an apocalyptic event.

No more quarreling about it then.

I'm an admitted fan of Pluto and wish it did meet the standards to be counted as a planet, but it does not. I still regard it fondly, however.

I view planets as having a radius larger than 1,400 miles, but smaller than that to be considered dwarf planets. These planets by my definition cannot orbit other planets. As such, Pluto isn't a planet, but Ganymede would be if it were to orbit only the sun and not Jupiter.

So because the word "dwarf" is used one way in one context, it has to be used the same way in a different context? That's not how language works.

The IAU definition explicitly states that dwarf planets is a distinct class of object, not a subset of planets. Claiming that they're planets just because "dwarf people are people" is nonsensical.

All I’m hearing from my detractors is that Pluto isn’t a planet because it’s slow.

It’s doing the same thing as all the other planets it’s just doing it slower, so dwarf people are still people dwarf planets are still planets.

Smallest planet found (Kepler-37b) has a radius of 1,401.4 miles, so logically anything larger than that is a planet as well. And since I'm a nice guy, its anything larger than 1,400 miles in radius.
