I mean, literally the provincial government adopts the sharia as its law, in direct violation to Indonesia's founding philosophy. This special status is granted to placate the separatist Islamist rebels (who are now already absorbed and intimately involved in local politics), thus ending the brutal separatist wars that have gone for decades – one who literally needs the single worst tsunamy in recorded history in order for peace to be possible.
Now instead of bombing and shooting, the Acehnese can happily develop their region and brutally torture their gay population in peace. This is necessary since if they don't enforce Islamic laws, Allah will become angry and send natural disasters as punishment for disobedience. And for now let's ignore the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunamy, since it might throw the whole "Allah loves faithful Muslims" narrative into disarray. As the saying goes: "a disaster is Allah's test if the victims are in the same server, and Allah's punishment if they're in a different server".

I love your use of server haha. I never understood why disasters would be God/Allah/what other gods' punishments. Filipinos are really devout and very religious (I am not, however) yet we get hit by at least 20 typhoons. Do these people ever think about weather or other conditions being the cause instead of "We sin, so God punish," especially now that science has reasonable proof for such.

Minister fined RM1,000 for breaching quarantine, will give up May-Aug salary

UPDATED 5.20PM | Added Khairuddin's pledge to donate four months of his ministerial salary to Covid-19 fund.
The Health Ministry today confirmed that Plantation, Industries and Commodities Minister Khairuddin Aman Razali had breached Covid-19 quarantine rules after he returned from Turkey on July 7.
The ministry said, as a result, Khairuddin was fined RM1,000 on Aug 7. He has since apologised and vowed to donate his ministerial salary from May to August to the country's Covid-19 fund.
"As Khairuddin failed to abide by the rules under Act 342 (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988), the officer-in-charge issued an RM1,000 compound against Khairuddin on Aug 7 and he has settled the compound," the Health Ministry said in a statement today.
Khairuddin underwent a nasopharyngeal swab upon returning on July 7 and the result was negative for Covid-19. He was tested two subsequent times after, which also returned negative, it added.
The Health Ministry did not go into detail about the offence committed by the Kuala Nerus MP other than to say he had violated the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations (Number 7) 2020 under Act 342.
In a separate statement later, the minister apologised for breaking quarantine.
"A million apologies to all Malaysians on the mistake that happened. As a minister, I am responsible for following the rules and SOPs," he said.
As an expression of him taking responsibility, Khairuddin said he would be donating his salary as a minister from May to August to the Covid-19 fund. Previously, all cabinet ministers had also given up their March and April salaries to the same fund.
The statement did not mention whether Khairuddin's entourage had also breached Covid-19 regulations and if they were fined.
Teresa Kok
The announcement came five days after Seputeh MP Teresa Kok revealed in the Dewan Rakyat that Khairuddin did not undergo quarantine upon returning to Malaysia. He attended Parliament six days later, on July 13.
The fine was dated exactly a month after his return and was only revealed 15 days after the issuance following attention given to the matter in the Dewan Rakyat.
The fine was not known when Kok raised Khairuddin's alleged offence in Parliament.
The Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations (Number 7) 2020, among others, require overseas returnees to undergo a compulsory 14-day quarantine.
All returnees must undergo a swab test for Covid-19 and be subsequently sent to a quarantine centre to carry out a 14-day isolation period.
Prior to July 24, overseas returnees who test negative must still undergo quarantine but were allowed to do so at home.
They were not allowed to leave home for 14 days and must be retested on the 13th day before their quarantine bracelet can be removed. Khairuddin allegedly did not undergo this process.
From July 24 onwards, quarantine must be done at government-designated centres. The measure was reintroduced after many violated their quarantine conditions at home.
Khairuddin's case had received national attention amid complaints that regular Malaysians are treated more harshly than VIPs.
On Aug 14, a 72-year-old woman was fined RM8,000 and given a day in jail for violating a home quarantine order. A retest found her to be positive with Covid-19.
On Aug 13, 57-year-old Nezar Mohamed Sabur Batcha was fined RM12,000 and sentenced to five months in jail for violating a home quarantine order. He was the index case for the Sivagangga cluster.

I'd comment further on this, but what I have in mind will attract undue attention from the Mods because there is nothing I can say that will suffice in describing my reaction to this without casting decency aside.

Hmm. Hong Kong (Pearl River Delta) has always seemed perfectly impervious to typhoons to me. A max-level super typhoon typically results in 0-1 casualties and, at worst, a few broken windows. Maybe some flooding in low-lying areas in the northern New Territories. Nothing major.
Seriously, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan should join ASEAN as full members with Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand joining as associate or observer states. They're all situated south of the Tropic of Cancer and have exactly the same kind of tropical weather as Malaysia and Singapore during the summer months. We just need to get rid of the pesky CCP to do it.

UPDATED 8.15PM | Malaysia agrees to extradite the suspects.
The two Malaysians charged in an alleged international hacking scandal are directors in an established online game store operating out of Perak.
International newswire Reuters reported today that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) charged Wong Ong Hua, 46, and Ling Yang Ching, 32, for conspiring with hackers from China.
The duo allegedly worked with hackers to “profit from computer intrusions” targeting video game firms in the US, France, Japan, Singapore and South Korea.
In a New York Times report on the indictment, hackers were said to have worked with the Malaysians to “steal and launder money” through the video game industry.
Both reports stated that the duo have been arrested.
Federal police headquarters Bukit Aman has stated that Criminal Investigation Department director Huzir Mohamed said the Attorney-General’s Chambers have agreed to the extradition under the Extradition Act 1992 and an extradition treaty between Malaysian and the US.
This came after the extradition request was received from US authorities on Sept 3, and the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court had issued a provisional warrant of arrest on both suspects on Sept 11.
“The Magistrate’s Court has allowed at 60-day remand under Section 16(1) of the Extradition Act 1992 and Article 11(4) of the extradition treaty between the governments of Malaysia and the US.
“Both suspects are being detained under remand at Sungai Buloh Prison, Selangor,” he said in a statement today.
He said the forensics officers have also seized evidence and related documents at the duo’s company premises.
The DOJ, meanwhile, noted that the arrests in Sitiawan were made by Malaysian authorities pursuant to a provisional arrest request by the US.
Wong is the founder of online video game store SEA Gamer Mall Sdn Bhd while Ling is its chief product officer. According to company records, both serve as directors of the 13-year-old company.
Headquartered in Sitiawan, Perak, its website lists offices in China, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Listed for sale on the SEA Gamer Mall website includes “top-up cards” for popular online games like PUBG and Mobile Legends, digital gift cards, as well as prepaid mobile credits.
According to company records, it made RM386.4 million in revenue and RM11.6 million in profit in 2019.
Speaking to The Star, SEA Gamer Mall Chief Operating Officer Tommy Chieng said the company was “looking at” the US DOJ papers.
“All I can say is that we are looking at the indictment papers.
“Our lawyers are working on it. Have no other comments,” he was quoted as saying.
SEA Gamer Mall has since placed the duo on leave.

Among SEA Gamer Mall’s five directors are Nerine and Chryseis Tan, the daughters of Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder Vincent Tan.
Vincent is also the major shareholder in the company through Cyberventures Sdn Bhd.
Cyberventures is owned by Vecc-Men Holdings Sdn Bhd, where Vincent has a stake.
Berjaya Corporation has yet to respond to Malaysiakini’s request for a comment on the charges.
Along with Wong and Ling, the US DOJ charged five China residents - Zhang Haoran, Tan Dailin, Jiang Lizhi, Qian Chuan, and Fu Qiang - for hacking into “more than 100 companies” inside and outside the US.
The companies included software development companies, computer manufacturers, telecommunications providers, social media companies, gaming firms, non-profit organisations, universities, and think-tanks.
Targets also included foreign governments as well as pro-democracy politicians and civil society figures in Hong Kong.
In his press conference on the indictment, US Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen said Chinese authorities had “chosen” to not enforce the law against the alleged hackers.
“The Chinese government has made a deliberate choice to allow its citizens to commit computer intrusions and attacks around the world because these actors will also help the People’s Republic of China,” he said.
As for the 23 charges Wong and Ling face, the DOJ lists them as follows:
- One count of racketeering conspiracy, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison;
- One count of racketeering, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison;
- Three counts of intentional damage to a protected computer, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison;
- Five counts of unauthorised access to a protected computer, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison;
- Five counts of furthering fraud by unauthorised access to a protected computer, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison;
- Two counts of access device fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison;
- Two counts of identity theft, which carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison;
- One count of aggravated identity theft, which carries a mandatory sentence of two years in prison;
- Three counts of money laundering, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
"The indictment also alleges false registration of domain names, which would increase the maximum sentence of imprisonment for money laundering to 27 years; the maximum sentence of imprisonment for unlawful access to a protected computer to 10 years instead of five years; the maximum sentence of imprisonment for intentional damage to a protected computer to 17 years instead of 10 years; and the mandatory sentence of imprisonment for aggravated identity theft to four years instead of two years," it said.

Good to know Malaysia's on the right side of history. Let this be a lesson to anyone who even thinks about spying for the CCP. The Americans will come for you no matter where you are in the world. I could honestly care less if one of my pro-PRC relatives is arrested and charged with treason by the government of their passport country. They need to learn their lesson the hard way. The time has come for Malaysian Chinese to choose between Malaysia and China. I choose Malaysia. I choose Sarawak. I choose Hong Kong. I choose Taiwan. And I choose our American, Australian, Indian, and Japanese allies.

Excellent, although as these actions were apparently supported by the PRC government, the PRC should be hit with massive sanctions as well, not only by the US, but by Malaysia and others as well (well obviously not only for this, but add it to the novel length list of reasons).

My main worry is that if Sino-Malaysian relations take a nosedive, China may begin detaining and sentencing Malaysian nationals residing in HK and China proper to death just as they have done to Canadian and Australian citizens, making it really dangerous for me to set foot in HK simply because of my nationality.
