Musicians Thread

Postby South Ccanda » Tue Feb 11, 2020 12:31 pm

I Don't know if this has been done before, so I'm trying it. The (official?) Musician's Thread!

I can’t really think of a topic for this thread, so I'll just introduce myself and see if that get's the ball rolling.
My name is Jack, but you may call me Whiskey (Or Ccanda) and I play Tuba, Sousaphone, and Guitar. I am a member of my High School Marching Band, where we have won many superior ratings. I am also in Choir. This year in the choir, we went to perform at Disney’s Candlelight Processional show at Epcot. I also made it into the Alabama All-State TTBB choir (As a Tenor 1) and I look forward to performing in Birmingham in a few months. As for my guitar, I am currently still learning to play, but I have a basic understanding and a few songs under my belt, As well as I am writing my own song.

Question, What is the song that you play all the time on whatever instrument you play?

I am Center-Left Libertarian. (-3,-3) on the Political Compass. My friends call me Whiskey cause I was named after a bottle of Jack Daniel's.

I've been drowning myself in work, I just started Culinary School, and I recently got called a Boot Licker for thanking a veteran for their service. I'm sad that I have to witness the part of history where supporting Cops and Troops is seen and a radical ideology.

I think I once made a thread on what instruments people play but it hasn't been around for a while so let's not gravedig ;)

I play the guitar and I sing as well.

So to all the guitarists out there, what's your favourite guitar tone of all time? Jerry Cantrell's guitar tone I'm quite a big fan of.

Yeah lol, considering that this thread didn't take off, I guess it doesn't matter.

I got as far as an associates in music before I switched majors. I sax noodle on the corner for money or fun now and then.

Cool. I always wanted to do some street corner music. That's why I want to move to New Orleans and open up a restaurant, cause I know for sure that I could be a chef and still play my tuba. Oh, and Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras in Mobile is fun, but I heard New Orleans' is cooler.

I play piano. I took lessons between ages 6 and 10, then quit. Picked it back up about 6 months ago with no trouble (I’m now 21).

So you’re saying you’re having a little treble? That this isn’t your forte? Because you’re all about that bass?

I play the sax and I sing. Right now I'm in a folk music choir, which is a lot of fun. I'm considering taking a year in music science after my masters, as I went to music high school and music folk school and it would be a fun class combination.

I can sing, I can rap, I can play guitar and bass, I can use FL Studio and Audacity. I'm working on getting better at coming up with bars off the top of my head, I can usually come up with about 8 bars off the top. I've been trying to come up with somewhere to host cyphers, since practising as a group is more rewarding.

I wanted that so bad. I never tried out but I probably wasn't good enough anyway.

I err.... I probably have no business being here, but I can brag that I have done some music classes in Primary 5-6 (Grade 5-6), and Secondary 1-2 (Grade 7-8)... :P

That one song that I kept hearing in my head was this:

♪ Hey ho, hey ho, tell me where you’re going?
Up hill, down hill, where the wind is blowing.
This road, that road, here and there and yonder.
Up hill, down hill, anywhere to wander. ♪

Czech Canon, or something... that was the name.

-----

I can also safely say that I hate using wind instruments, even if it is my own recorder. The fact that I got my mouth fluids all over my instrument and having to clean it every time is... uhh...

As typical as it can be for some people, I still like to learn to learn piano sometimes. Or a harp. A harp sounds divine!

Yeah, the spit build up in my tuba can be astounding at times. add another 300 wind players on a field and you can figure out why it is so green during the drought season.

I can play guitar! Instruments I've tried in the past include violin, piano, flute, and (of course) recorder.

New question on OP.
My favorite song to play right now is Santa Monica by Everclear. Unless I am playing the tuba, in which case I play The Second Line.

Probably Angel Eyes on the alto. Or, generic as it may be, Harlem Nocturne. On tenor it's more of a toss up. Body and Soul is fun. Another generic one but still a favorite years later is Pink Panther.

You have a pretty interesting singing style. I love the music and lyrics, but I'de love to make my own cover of it if you don't mind.

As for my singing, currently I'm at 3 octaves 4 semitones (C♯2 - F5). Not bad!

Converge have a great guitar tone. I've always been interested in rapping but I've never got round to actually making a start.

It's really just a matter of figuring out how to establish a rhythm with syllable stresses, and then to place near-rhymes on the stressed syllables. Personally I make a lot of use of assonance and use my cadence to force stuff that might not rhyme on every syllable into something that has the same rhythm to the way it's delivered, essentially that becomes a motif you can move around. I also like to come up with phrases where the same sound gets repeated on every second syllable. Practice getting used to saying tongue-twisters first, to improve your annunciation in that context. Figuring out where you can reduce or drop consonants is handy too.

I played the piano as a child(7-13). I quit it because I lost interest in classical music.
I still play the keyboard at church though.
I join band now. It's a bit tough, but my piano experience helped me because I was supposed to do melodic mallets.
