There was no rape, only pillaging of Kobe's wealth.

Hard to grasp for me? In a public statement He admitted to raping her.

Except he didnt. Also public statements aren't under oath so yeah.

He paid her 5 million to drop the criminal and settle the civil case.

Wrong the case was dismissed because she refused to testify, and then the civil case which does not have the burden of proof, was settled. Which is not an admission of guilt, any more than it's an admission of "I just want this all to be over."

For the sake of arguemnt, I will concede he has learned and repented.
should have listens to Billie Jean on repeat as a kid.

Again, I do not think this rape is the totality of the man that is Kobe Bryant, but it is there.

Naw the smear is there.

Don't really know which side of this I come down on, but either way she was never countersued for, or charged with, lying so to just straight up call her a 100% liar is equally as ridiculous as just saying that Kobe is a 100% rapist. Due to the way the case ended we will never know 100% what happened.

Most aren't, because it's just as difficult to prove when you've had consensual sex with a person, that they're lying after the fact.

Which is why the FBI false report statistic is deceptively low. They only account for proven falsehood, not the unfounded accusations.

Um, yeah? Organizations tend to not keep track of unfounded accusations. That's kind of how data (and, you know, science) works. The very fact that they're unfounded is why the FBI doesn't keep track of them. Should murder statistics also include people who were acquitted of murder (or never even charged in the first place)?

That's not the point. Feminists tend to try to use the FBI statistics as proof that the vast majority of rape accusations are true, by citing the 2.5% false statistic. I'm pointing out why that line of argumentation is flawed and why I'd wager the true stat is upwards of 30%-40%

You'd wager that based on what? The statistics that you literally just said don't exist? It's fine to criticize the official stats for inefficiencies, but that doesn't mean you can just pull a number (especially one so high) out of your ass. Statistics and data aren't based on what you "wager" (read: feel) the number is.

I feel like the thread is beginning to drift. While the rape accusation against Kobe Bryant shouldn't be ignored, perhaps it deserves a thread of its own, or if not that, a discussion in the Feminism thread.

Gets what's coming?

So death threats are an acceptable response to Kobe jokes?
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness but the limitation of righteousness.

It wasn't even a joke, just an (apparently insincere) tirade trying to dickride off Hannibal Burress's condemnation of Bill Cosby. He also lost a steady comedy club gig.

While I do have a quite low opinion of Shaffir(his whole ¨make fun of dead famous people days after they died¨ shit is totally inappropriate and disrespectful) and have no real sympathy for him losing his gig, those who were issuing threats were out of line. Issuing threats like that is not an appropriate response to someone acting like a jackass.
I do be tired

That sound is the oncoming freight train of litigation.

Kobe's death hurts a lot given that he was pretty humble off the court. Speaking of the legal kind, the accusations shouldn't blackmark his image, given that a) the maid was lying and b) Kobe never got in considerable trouble again. Can't say the same for Brown.

Yes people always pay 5 million to liars, and then buy their wives 10 million or so in bling cause they did nothing.

Being a woman with minimum contact towards a celeb must be quite nice. Just scream "rape" in front of cameras and be given hush money to avoid further character assassination.
