Funny, because that's what Cummings does not want.

We can't maintain a system of low taxation without austerity. The only way to stop austerity would be to raise taxes, so if it's a choice between that I pick the option which makes taxes low.

Austerity probably has damaged the British economy more than the 2008 recession actually did by creating tax havens and removing money to those tax havens to rot.

It's the poor that make the brunt of the spending power of the UK. By taxing them more, they are unable to make frivolous purchases as they have to worry about spending money on food, housing, or heating.

The more the people with the least money are taxed, the less money to help the economy.

I dont think you read the source. The premise of the article was that other factors likely resulted in the additional deaths due to the methodology of comparing the death rate 10 years ago with the death rate today. Most notably the UK being an older population. Old people die more often.

Especially if you stick them in sub-standard elderly care facilities and treat their illnesses in an overstretched healthcare system.

Life expectancy growth has slowed down across all groups in the last 10 years. But for poor groups has actually dropped. You can't hand wave that away.

Is that because of cuts in healthcare spending or increased rates of obesity and old age in the UK population? Obesity in particular is more common among the poor.

It's the cuts in everything. Police numbers get cut and murder rates rise. Welfare cuts leave people only able to afford the worst shit food and obesity rises. Cuts to mental health services and suicides rise. Cuts to social services lead to more people needing the aforementioned cut mental health services. Healthcare cuts as a whole has ended up with longer waiting times and therefore worse outcomes for patients. Etc, etc.

It's not a one thing assessment. The whole system of support that was there for people has been eroded away and that leads to corpses.

I wouldn't hang my hat on the link Vass provided because I don't really like the method, but I'd bet my house that people are dead because of austerity and I'd imagine the numbers would be much neared the 100,000 mark than the 1,000 mark.

And this proves that Austerity isn't a major contributing factor in an increased death rate... how?

What if we stick them only in the standard of care facilities that they can afford? And when they're ill, treat them with the health service they can afford? Think of the savings.
