Tommy Robinson flees to Spain with family and is considering leaving UK for good

Tommy Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, fled the UK with his family after an alleged arson attack on his wife's property - and now cannot attend a protest due to quarantine rules if he returned to the UK

Far-right activist Tommy Robinson has left England and headed abroad with his family.

The former EDL leader said he was looking into permanently relocating his family after an alleged arson attack on his wife's property a few weeks ago.

Mr Robinson is thought to be in Spain after he told his followers he would be unable to attend a protest in the UK if he returned due to a change in quarantine rules.

Many Twitter users have mocked Mr Robinson for seeking shelter overseas given his strong pro-Brexit and anti-immigration views.

In a video shared online, he said he fled the country in his car and accepted an offer of a place to stay overseas.

Speaking about the alleged arson, he said: "It was targeted against my wife's property.

"At that point we left the country straight away and I'm looking at relocating my family, which is pretty hard to do, especially with Covid — I couldn't even get a hotel.

"Obviously my wife has had enough of everything — someone gave her somewhere to stay, so we left the country, and I was due to be flying back for the demonstration, but now with this 14-day quarantine, I probably won't get back out and my kids are out here."

I made another call just after I got off with 999. That was the time showing on my phone when they showed up.

Ah I see. I actually phoned the local police station directly, as I felt guilty about using 999 for something like that, as clearly the person wasn't in imminent danger since it was just their remains after all. And I also figured I'd get a faster response by calling the station direct.

I honestly wasn't sure what number to call. No local station numbers in these parts. The last time I called the non-emergency number I gave up after 45 minutes on hold and 999 did seem a bit extreme.

I justified it by thinking that he might not be drunk and might have had a health emergency. Also, is he drove off while I was waiting and killed someone because he was drunk then I'd feel like shit. And then the nice lady at 999 confirmed you should report any suspected drunk driving as an emergency so I felt a bit better.

I feel sorry for the children.

Yes anyone out of their head behind the wheel of a vehicle is 999-worthy.

Won't Spain just kick him out on 1st Jan 2021? I can't imagine he has any skills valuable enough to earn a visa....

Saw some people say they might reject him due to his criminal record. Though im not too familiar with the details of laws regarding that if that would be accurate or not.

Often there are special qualities other than the standard skillset that countries include in their visa application forms, such as special awards or recognitions of excellence that a person has; but I doubt Spain will have "recognised hateful shit-stirring moron" as one of those.

He'll probably claim to be a refugee from persecution or some baloney like that for added irony points.

We don’t. We save those for our politicians.

If Tommy thinks his family has been the target of an arson attack and he's decided to prioritise the safety of his wife and kids over his political activism then I have every sympathy with him. Perhaps if I more straightforwardly hated him rather than thinking him a blundering oaf whose heart at least is often in the right place I might be more up for buying into this compelling point-and-laugh adventure.

Exactly, I don't think there's much to criticise him on this point, he thinks his wife and kids are in danger and is protecting them. He's done a lot of shit I don't like in the past but this is a good act from him.

I have a lot of beef with Robinson, but if he and his family really were a victim of an arson attack then he has some sympathy from he and I cannot really begrudge him for trying to protect his family.

To be fair, I can understand if he wishes to move elsewhere if feeling under threat from the attack. I think it's just that the same thing that many refugees also experience on a slightly greater scale; given his anti-immigration stance it seems a little hypocritical.

It's like if a homophobe complaining about being bullied for views - fair enough but the same thing happens for the people you stand against.

Also he's lying. He's claiming an arson attack on his home - people checked with the police and they said nothing of the sort had happened, but had reports of a car being set on fire in June.

He didn't say home, he said it was his wifes property.

A little misleading perhaps but not a lie.

Bedfordshire Police said it did not have a record of house arson linked to Robinson's family, but had received a report of a car being set on fire in June, without providing further details.

So it doesn't say they only checked his home for arson.

Eh? A car is a piece of property.

Assuming that the report of a burned out car is his wifes car.

Even if this is so, the whole news story here is 'man moves to spain.' It's not like he's detected the ebil muslims in spain and is rushing over to protest against them or something, it's literally 'man moves to spain.'

Ugh, I thought Brexit was supposed to stop that.
