You take Scotland out; you put Scotland in,
Out the UK, into Europe,
Shake it all about.
You hope to join the EU when you turn around
'Cos that's what it's all about.

Although, while Tusk says that European leaders feel "empathetic" to the thought of a newly independent Scotland wanting to join the EU, they say Scotland would not be automatically accepted, and there would be obligations like any other sovereign nation joining the EU.

Of course, a different government may be happier to accept obligations and make treaties than the UK government is proving to be.

We need to reassess police powers over protest, says Michael Gove

So now the Government has decided it needs the power to ban protests that fit the vague category of "serious public disorder".

In short, fuck no.

But disruption and inconvenience is the entire point of protest. This is just authoritarian control freakery just like everything else this government has been doing.

Except of course releasing dangerous madmen out of prison so we can all be shocked when the crazy madman who boasted about stabbing people in prison then goes and stabs people in the streets.

Police really don't need any more powers than they already have. Reassessing in the opposite direction is what's needed.

You mean that just like Australia, France and America, England has just decided to further stray from its history as a free country?

Restricting the opportunities for scrutiny by a free press... a move straight from Trump's playbook.

I can't say I'm surprised. This, after all, is the government that shouts "parliamentary sovereignty" while denying MPs the power to scrutinise trade deals.

No government should flinch from oversight and rigorous questions. They that do generally need it more than others.

I hope the EU do try to protect British citizens and work to ensure the UK remains under the protection of the Convention of Human Rights. God knows, they're vital.

The deficit is much higher than the EU allows, so a consequence of independence and application for EU membership would be extremely higher taxes, drastically cut services, or both.

The government is actively taking steps to restrict media outlets that criticize it. That seems quite fascist to me.

Because regimes who aren't fascist also have press restrictions. It's a non sequitur. That the press is being restricted to some minor extent, and that fascist countries had (much more severe!) press restrictions does not mean that the decision makes the Tories fascist. Fascism doesn't follow from the premise here anymore than it does - for example - from the fact that both we and Nazi Germany had restrictions on private gun ownership or that both we and Hitler like dogs.

the press is not being restricted

do you think you can put on a reporter badge and enter no 10 and get brexit briefings?

uninvited journalists who never attended no 10 brexit briefings before demanded to be let him, the n10 press secretary told them to leave. simples.
