Obviously it is a marketing ploy. Ben and Jerry’s is a hippy company only in the respect that is how the market themselves, of course they Unilever are actually a cut throat neoliberal mega corp, with massive ethics problems but many hippies will still buy their ice cream because they say stuff like this.

Of course the idiocy is the UK government (Ben and Jerry’s/Unilever is evil and hypocritical but smart) giving them free advertising. Unilever is well known for using controversy to raise awareness of their brands as an advertising scheme, the UK government responding as it did is exactly what they want, because now many Labourites will be rushing out to buy their ice cream.

I don't see many people in Labour will be rushing to by Ben & Jerrys because of the twitter spat, they aren't that shallow.

I am sure there are plenty of shallow people in and supporting Labour, just like in any party. It is not like Unilever got to make billions by their marketing strategy not working. Clearly it works quite well. They know exactly what they are doing.

Not everyone will fall for it but obviously many will. And Unilever will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I think you do not seem to understand the world objectively. How do you objectively prove “rendered outstanding service”? That is a very subjective judgment.
It is not something you can definitively and scientifically measure.

Me too, actually. I think I'd be really ashamed if the leader of my party and many of its most prominent members were frothing anti-Semites.

Thankfully this isn't an issue in my camp.
