Grading pupils during the pandemic would have been a lot easier if the Conservatives hadn't replaced continuous assessment of coursework with a focus on a final exam. A mix of the two approaches is much more robust.

There has been a serious train accident in Scotland. Details are still sketchy regarding casualties, but they are said to be multiple and serious. The PM and Scotland's FM are being kept apprised of events.

Bit weird then that you tried to hold him to account for a poor argument, when you yourself never provided one anyway. Weird.

Not even pre-feudal, it was just feudal. It wasn't as strict as it was after the Norman conquest, but land ownership was still dependent on the approval of the king.

as far as i know the dominant argument is that the saxon people lived free and happy until the dastardly normans came and enslaved them

which, as far as i know, is 30% true

Oh come now Vass, you are bright enough to work out them out.

The first is that NSG was very keen to chatter when companies were supposed to be moving headquarters to the continent, yet seem oddly silent about an exceptionally large company moving completely to becoming UK based. Not that we should make too many conclusions from how a business is headquartered.

The second is that a private company that preaches ethics to governments should seek to be ethical itself. I'm sure you do not believe tax evasion is an ethical practice? At the very least this should undermine their moral authority.

Rainbow capitalists mega corps are going to practice what they preach?

Sure neoliberal rainbow capitalism is hypocritical in the extreme, saying “help immigrants” while enslaving people in third world countries for cheap labor and such but I still do not see what getting in a Twitter pissing match accomplishes.

Especially if one is a neoliberal also. “Stop supporting slavery” makes a better argument than “we also support slavery but your stance on migration is wrong”.

Fair point, it does allow you to disguise the impact. Given you already destroyed the economy worse than Brexit could, any Brexit problems will be lost in the mix.

Because of Covid it's likely that the number on board the train are much reduced from what they'd normally be.

Death toll for covid 19 has been reduced by 12%

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53722711

That's probably a more accurate number, as the people who did die after testing positive will generally die from covid-19 in the first 2 to 4 weeks of catching symptoms.

Previously the number would have counted people who tested positive for covid, recovered, and then died from something completely different.

That also brings PHE estimates roughly in line with ONS estimates.

There's some evidence that it's just a matter of the contact tracing getting better, though: ZOE has gone back to having decreasing infection numbers in their models, as has MRC (albeit with low confidence in that latter case). The next ONS report is due out on Friday, which will probably pin things down better.
