Suburban southeastern Pennsylvania, just a bit outside of Philadelphia.
Depressing Nordic semi-socialist commonwealth filled with Lovecraftian horrors, man-eating fox people, Finns, bizarre accents, Saabs, and Volvos.

The spellcheck "typo" SITE => SIDE is the least comprehensible part of the post. Inexcusable too, it's such a critical word it should have been caught by the poster before being sent off.

It's actually an interesting hypothesis. There are obsessions of NSG (like healthcare, abortion, military intervention) which give anglo non-US folk a sense of moral superiority here. I personally am attracted by that.

The other half of the thesis, that Americans are deterred, I think is rubbish. Perhaps LUNA is just assuming that users of other sites and platforms are 80% American when they're really not.

An alternative thesis is that the site was started by an Australian and has some hard-to-define Australian flavor that attracts non Americans. Consider the Issues, aren't they all a bit ironic in a way Americans can't be with their cynical humor that lacks self-mockery?

My apologies for the typo. But honestly, I'm Canadian and I could not even tell those NS issues were written by an Australian.

How do we know this? Because the first step toward Communism is Socialism, and none of the aforementioned are even remotely Socialist in any way, shape, or form.

I'm from the United States. I've lived in Utah, Colorado, Texas, and California (not listed in any particular order) but have spent most of my life in Utah.

Utah is fantastic! It has a beautiful landscape, great people, and really cool cultural sites. But, it's also the center of a religion (nothing against Mormonism-- I'm mormon, you should check it out), and with that come social cliques and more than a few culture shocks (e.g., I've never seen a grocery store here with a wine/alcohol aisle). But if you stay away from Utah County then all that should be minimized.

Colorado was cool. I was pretty young so I dont remember much but the folk seemed nice.

Same thing with Texas, although I actually have a photo of my kindergarten class that shows me as the only white kid in the class. Kind of interesting.

California was great, and the diversity of the people was really cool. The folk were affable and it was a great place to live. But, I'll never be able to afford to move back there again. Who can actually afford to pay thousands of dollars every month for a tiny apartment, let alone a house? Not this guy.

As I mentioned before, I am American, but my fiancee is Japanese and I have been to Japan a couple times to visit her family and look around. Japan seems like a really neat country. The people are pretty nice, the culture is interesting, it is safe (in terms of crime), and the countryside is breathtaking.

Meanwhile, I'm from, and [sadly] still living in a nation who's pretty much teetering to the brink of collapse by its own hand.

Or, as it is officially known, Nigeria - born in the south with parents from the north, & currently living in the southwest.

I've also lived abroad for three years - specifically, in Brunei, ie that place that frequently goes missing on a number of maps.

It's a wretched poll, it could have been twice as good. But there are limits to how good it could be, ten options can never cover the world.

I'm not sure - IIRC only residency & study visas. Renewing a passport was a hassle, as you had to travel to Malaysia for that - and even worse if you're trying to apply for a visa for another country.
