Agreed. Though, I think it should be outlawed for children to prevent parents from forcing them to go, while leaving it legal for consenting adults.

I'm fine with this current ban, as all the articles I read seem to imply that the ban only applies to minors. I would be opposed to an complete ban that applies to everyone.

Most bans do only apply to minors and its that's the demographic its largely practiced on.

Yet another NSG thread about Utah that simultaneously embarrasses and embiggens us.

Cool, I feel like this thread is just going to be a bunch of "Oh ok." Personally children should obviously never be forced or coerced into this, but if it's a consenting adult doing it to themselves then that's their business.

Do you think it should be outlawed for children?

I think that there should be a minimum age, maybe sixteen.

Sixteen in a lot of states is considered legal age of consent, with 17 being legal age to move out.

It's clearly not a theocratic hellhole but it still is one of the most conservative states out there.

I think a 20 year old is more than capable of determining their own sexuality lol.

Finally some progress in Utah. Still, feels like the Mormon Church decided to throw a bone after engineering the Proposition 8 campaign in California.

Gorm this is a discussion about Conversion/sexuality, let's not turn this into a debate about how old some should be to do X and Y.

Utah is also a state where discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is illegal in employment and housing

Wait, only the 19th state? I was daft as fuck to assume that it was almost universally banned (barring a few holdout states, obviously). Christ.

Yeah its quite sad there is no universal ban on this quackery already. Only 65 municipalities have banned it as well according to this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U ... on_therapy

The most recent being Columbia, Missouri, Kansas City, Minneapolis, St Louis and Duluth. Some of the local bans are in states were its banned statewide so the local ban is redundant however it is worth noting they were passed before the statewide ban was implemented.

The Republicans tend to pander to the religious right with constant talk of Religious Freedom (except for Muslims, because they're all terrorists) like the U.S. is always on the verge of an atheist-led crackdown.

Wut

So when did Democrats defend allowing religious or sexual discrimination as "religious freedom"?
