Surprised it hasn’t spread rapidly throughout India yet, seeing how densely populated we are. People say it’s a combination of the warm weather and the Hindu stress on cleanliness (wash hand and feet every day after waking up, before leaving house, after coming back to your house, and before sleeping) that has prevented most of it

I can pretty much guarantee it's not that.

It is pretty important to wash your hands, from what I hear

Yeah, but if India had an advantage in hygiene it wouldn't fall victim to pretty much every disease that spreads due to poor sanitation so much.

Cholera’s still pretty big over there. However, it’s more based on what you eat than washing hands. High temperatures are the bane of COVID-19 though, which I guess explains why Manila isn’t zombieland yet

In India it's generally contaminated water that spreads cholera. But yes, a lot of fecal-oral route diseases do well there.

A lot of the spread of this disease so far has to do with travel patterns and luck. There's nothing, for instance, that makes Iran more vulnerable to COVID-19 than South Africa, but Iran is being hit much harder.

What a lot of people somehow still keep asking is 'If it does so badly in the heat, why is it so big in Iran?'

Without realising it gets pretty cold in the middle east.

So it’s pretty much rates of travel?

And luck. Or, at least, that's my understanding. If someone from the CDC cares to pop in with their opinion, I will of course defer to them.

Sounds plausible.

It might be the heat and humidity. We aren't sure yet and there is no guarantee Covid 19 is like other upper respiratory infections in that regard.

With the first cases popping up in my state, less than 100 miles away, my job (I work at a grocery store) is literally paying people to just stand in front of the door, holding a canister of sanitizing wipes and encouraging people to use them.

Our grocery store is limiting the amount of wipes people can buy to make sure there's enough to go around and people aren't hoarding/upcharging like crazy on Amazon.

Could be an allergic reaction, I have to be quite careful with what soaps/wipes I use etc.

If one does not test people for the disease, one does not find confirmed cases.

Perhaps Italy could use this. Just stop testing and the number of identified patients will drop !
