In other words, you better hope and pray it doesn't hit Syria or Libya or Colombia or Honduras or El Salvadore.

Actually, a lot of equatorial countries don't seem to be very affected. I've been wondering whether it's a combination of the climate and higher vitamin D levels making these populations much less vulnerable to this disease, as viruses that cause respiratory infections generally don't survive well in hot, humid conditions and Vitamin D is proven to bolster the immune system and reduce the risk of respiratory infections, whereas deficiencies have the opposite effect.

In any case, make sure you take Vitamin D supplements if you don't live on the equator. It won't prevent infection if you don't practice good hygiene but it will certainly help.

My employer canceled all domestic air travel to clients and conferences through the 31st and all international travel through the 15th for the same, we are encouraged to work from home at all times, and clients are canceling on-site fieldwork in favor of working remotely. I was driving back from my client in Michigan today and noted the toll collectors on the turnpike were wearing gloves, they weren't doing that when I left last week.

I've dismissed this same panic like 6 times already. When everyone was out buying up bird flu vaccine, I was at home watching cartoons and laughing at people stocking up like it was Y2K all over again. Same thing every time. Some new disease comes along, everyone goes into doomsday prepper mode, then we're all fine.

Only with those it didn't interrupt things I enjoy. Which is why this is pissing me off so much.

Leaders know who they are and their values. They know how to communicate their values. When have you heard that?

Leaders have integrity. They live by the values they profess and belive it’s what gives them credibility and people to trust them. They say “do as I do” rather then “do as I say”

Leaders tend to work alongside people; get to know them and care about them. Working with people allows inspiration

Leaders listen without beingin condescending. They don’t rush to judgement and have patience.

Leaders communicate in a forthright manner. They are open and speak often.

Is some of it overblown? Absolutely. I'm not rushing out to buy perishables. Panicking helps no one.

But a little concern, a little pro-activity, a little competence, and a little care could have probably kept the thousands of Americans sick now from being sick.
